Think my Dad managed ours in about 5 nights. I think the cutting of the tiles is supposed to be the pain rather than the actual tiling am I wrong?

If your walls are straight and perpendicular then its not a bad job. Ours were neither and due to having large tiles 600x300mm we cant rush it as the weight of the tiles means that if there is a lot of adhesive then you've got to wait for it to set before putting any on top etc. If you have good walls and smaller tiles then it might be possible to do it in a weekend, particularly if you have someone mixing the adhesive and doing the cutting other than the tiler0

jimbugalee - we have aquaboard up. When we screwed it into the joists we put a bit of sealant onto the nail as well to ensure that the holes we drilled would be water proof then put the screw into the nail! Watch which way it goes up as we ignored that and put it on the wrong way and had to take it off and do it again!!
Plasterer said its horrible stuff as you can't skim it (not that youd need to) but you do need to seal between the pieces..havent' done that just yet so unsure what to use! Will keep you posted. Tile adhesive will stick to it but nothing water based.
We also used aqua board, so long as you seal between joints and everything, then its great as you can tile straight onto it.0 -
oooh I'll look into that. Is it expensive *goes onto Google* We have some other tanking stuff too .... something gum?!0

Tiles are due to arrive tomorrow so tiling starts this weekend, DH seems to think he can get it all done this weekend, but i'm doubtful.
Also nearly ready to decorate in bedrooms. We move in the last week of June, so we are consentrating on getting the place livable and start the extension after. Which means living without a kitchen! Im going to look for a cheap gazbo and set up a continental style outside kitchen :rotfl:0 -

Its not that costly when you consider the money saved not plastering, we got ours at wickes as that was the cheapest in our area. They also sell the sealant etc especially for it.0 -
We are moving in the last week of June also Spicey but seem to be a little further behind i.e. not even done the bathroom plumbing yet!! There's no way we're onto decorating.
The kitchen is a disaster zone!! We are thinking of using the BBQ also0 -
jimbugalee - we have the plumbing in place ready to put in the fitments but need to tile first. So still not even got a toilet! we have to keep trotting round our neighbour (my mum) to use hers!
I been really lazy today, took GD to beach, so will have to put a full day in tomorrow.0 -
our timescale is the much more sensible "christmas" when everyone asks
a full 12 months to get it sorted..and im hoping it will be completely done by then. hopefully move in earlier if extension goes to plan

If you are tiling floor to ceiling, do you need something like Aquaboard? Don't the tiles and grout make a waterproof surface?0
