I think I've got it sussed now. When I click on the "insert link" symbol and the http:// comes up, I'll delete it so that only the one in the URL is there. I've edited my previous post so there's only the one and it seems to work now.

Glad I got that sorted before I go to bed :rotfl: .

:rotfl: Looks like we posted at the same time Canucklehead. Nice to know I was thinking along the right lines, boosts my confidence as a non-techie!

Just wondering, has that changed recently as I didn't have to delete the http:// before.

Hi...not sure how long it has been that way...previously I typed the link in by hand, then graduated to pasting link addresses in their entirety, then finally linky words..I've bookmarked my fav links to speed things up when I'm posting about certain subjects ...steep learning curve for me at times;)

Maybe a new version of the vBulletin software that the forum uses.

If you want to learn some of the more clever bits including the code for a url have a look here:

Looks like MSE have a few of their own customisations - maybe someone has been playing! (i noticed Martin was after someone to do some vBulletin work in his recent newsletter - shame i'm not in London!)

I guess i'm just too much of a techie though (used to be a computer programmer then website development - prefer text editors to graphical one's!).

Hi.... linky words make posts a bit easier on the eye (especially when someone posts a multitude of links in one post:eek:)

The fascias guys put in another solid day today...9am until 6:30pm. They didn't finish but are coming back for a few hours on Sunday morning to get it complete - I guess they have another job to start on monday. I'd rather get it done anyway as the forecast is for rain on sunday afternoon.

It's been a bit slower than they anticipated as all the corners where there are hip tiles have had to be propped up with acro props to allow them to correct where they had sagged down. Plus after the cracking business yesterday they were being really cautious getting the soffits off to ensure the same didn't happen again. Fortunately no more damage was done on the other window reveals - all of which had potential for the same thing to happen.

They've got as far as guttering on at 1/2 of the front and gutter brackets on the other half of the front. All the soffits and fascias are in and the tiles back in place. What's left now is to get the rest of the guttering in, the downpipes in, cement a few hip tiles back down, fix a bit of render that came off by the rear bay window, seal where soffit meets wall and put the plastic caps on the corners. I'm going to fix the crack in the spare room myself as i think it looks fairly straightforward to do a cover up job on - though they are willing to do it for me.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow when it's finished but where the gutter is up it looks really nice. So you'll all just have to be patient for the full effect of the transformation!! Let's just say it'll look the best in the street!

andrew-b - looking really good, really smartens the outside up doesn't it. Gutted about the cracks as we had the windows done, but have held off on the gutters due to ££

latecomer - well done on the job :D congrats!

Well we havent done anything in the house this week, but the plasterer has done all of the upstairs minus 2 ceilings, and the hall stairs and landing but it is amazing just looks all new and nice :D Next jobs are order skirting boards and bathroom tiles. then we can get painting basically!

Been thinking about my kitchen today and decided I really really do like the Belfast sinks, which need the solid wood or granite surfaces...which will cost about another £2000 :( but whats the point in being half happy?? Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to get the granite from a supplier rather than kitchen people?

Very nice Andy, very smart indeed. Your bungalow is almost the same as my mom's but she doesn't have bays, hers are flat windows.

You were very lucky with the weather, we've had rain the whole weekend, mostly torrential and our sunny spells lasted about 10 minutes - just enough time to do a bit of weeding and plant a couple of geraniums. Makes us realise how lucky we were during January/February when our roof was off!

    Hello!
Not much to report from me, I'm afraid - although I must say I'm very impressed with all of you! Andy, the new soffits etc look so smart, really make a difference. Our soffits and gutters are in ok condition but are really filthy - I've been meaning to get a guy round to pressure wash them (not very MSE I know, but it's a grotty job and I'd rather pay someone!)

On saturday we took 2 van loads of tree, rubble and bits of timber etc to the tip. A very cathartic exercise, even if it only made a small dent in the pile! I reckon we've got another 6-8 full van loads of tree to take...
We also put a new house number up outside - a very symbolic moment! We didn't have a number before so noone could ever find us. I'll put a photo of it on my blog cos I really like it :)

I think that was the only house-y stuff we did - we spent sat afternoon and evening with friends, and then sunday I had a dress fitting and then was babysitting. I need to get my !!!! in gear this week and sort out getting a new shed delivered next week, and potentially some new fencing, as I have the week off.

Latecomer - huge congrats on your new job!! I'm really pleased for you. I start my new job on 1st June; this is my last week in my current job and can't wait for my week off!

Front of the bungalow is looking great now Andy, makes a huge difference.

I washed my gutters and fascias/soffits on the front as they looked horrific next to the shiny new windows - again made a huge difference and makes the front look much better !

I have started the loft prep, man is it hot up there :o just clearing junk out of there and after an hour i had to come down and rehydrate !! Really really should have done that job in the winter - paying for my laziness now !!

I forget who, but i remember reading someone else sprayed the timber in the loft - did you do just the roof or all of the joists etc ? Concerned about spraying around all the electrical cables.
