First-time house renovation

Oh really? now that is interesting.... I was thinking it might look nice if I painted it as it would be horizontal, never gave eggshell a thought.
The gloss outside had to be glossed as it was exterior and it looks really good up to now but I am just not loving gloss to actually paint with, very difficult. Do you think it would matter if we painted it eggshell over sanded down gloss? (they are previously glossed)
Having a glance on house to home today and found this utility room, I just love the colour, it looks so fresh!
Any ideas what colour you'd call it? Chalk blue? Cornflower blue? Ah I love it so much!

Well the good news is (as per my other thread on it) is that the door company have agreed to change the door locking mechanism next week which is somewhat of a relief to me as it feels like a constant struggle to get everything sorted at the moment. In the meantime i have to keep remembering to lock it!
The very nice man from the plumber's merchant on ebay that i bought the cheap cistern from came round this morning to collect (first person to test the new door knocker!). He gave me a refund there and then in cash including the original postage costs. His hoping i order from him again in the future as he said he wanted to have a chance to redeem himself ! Still he'll get positive feedback.
It would be nice if things didn't go wrong for me once in a while!
The soffits, fascias, guttering are scheduled to be replaced next Thursday and Friday so there's another chance for something else to go wrong!
Jamtart, Not sure what that colour is but it seems to have an almost purply tint to it..it doesn't look like any of the ready-mixed dulux colours from a quick comparision between my dulux colour guide and screen. It's very similar to the colours of the feature wall in the bedroom of a flat i rented for several years.

Jamtart - I would call it cornflower blue or maybe powder blue? It's similar to my spare bedroom which is Crown paint (I think) called "A whisper of powder blue".
Good news on the door Andy! I don't know what's happening with mine, the guy hasn't dropped a sample round yet...hopefully tomorrow morning.

Just a quick update to say interview went ok, not brilliant but could have been worse. Got stuck on some very basic stuff but then nobody uses it these days so hopefully they wont penalise me too much. Got asked about salary expectations and notice periods so perhaps in with a chance. Thanks for all the support!
Probably not going to be doing much on the house front this weekend as we are going visiting and to make use of peoples showers0 -
glad it went well latecomer !
plasterer coming today YAY! Yes I would call it cornflower blue too, might have to get it mixed, absolutely love it!
tomsmom - been thinking more about the eggshell, did you paint doorframes with eggshell+acrylic gloss as well as windowsills?

yay plasterer has started! he isnt very reliable for turning up so I am AMAZED he arrived today, his work is absolutely impeccable though and half the price as he is family. Just a pest to get hold of
Anyway, can't remember if I have mentioned the "grass" issue before, but long story short, there isn't a pavement between our garden and the road. The space outside our garden is the only place to park in the road without blocking a drive way, so there is frequently cars outside our house which is annoying but not illegal! Anyway, even with us standing there watching, people get out of their cars and onto our grass (fine if it is out visitors, annoying if it is complete strangers). My lovely daffodils were trampled so I had to take them out. It is currently all turfed, but isn't doing anything to solve the problem. We don't really want a wall, or a border (more trample issues), a fence, a hedge etc. but we do want to keep the disrespectful people off my damn grass! Any ideas whatsoever? We can't think of anything inspired!!

andrew-b - electric fence was my first suggestion, we must be on the same wave length!! i think the chain is a good option as if they misjudge it, they will trip up
more pain = better

we have 1 room almost plastered (i forgot to tell him i wanted the ceillings doing..he was not impressed!!)

@Jamtart - how about some large rocks right on the boundary, not round ones but angular ones which look like they will do some damage to any cars that stray too close.
We didn't do much over the weekend due to being away visiting but put some more boxes into the loft and also took the old knackered sofa to the tip after reducing it to component parts first.
I've got numerous things to do on the house but got a lot of other things I need to do first. Also got to clean my car and try and polish out a scrape that someone did in the supermarket carpark last night. At least they were writing down their details when we got back to the car and he gave me all his details etc. I wasn't going to bother about it as its not that bad but he insisted its a company car and he would rather I got it fixed. Will see what it looks like once its cleaned and polished. Very nice of him to own up and give his details anyway.0 -
I thought it would come out black but it seemed quite clean to me.
Did you give the radiators a hit with a rubber mallet or something before/while draining down? Apparently thats meant to loosen a lot of the black gunk that sits at the bottom of them.
Also when we did ours it was only when we took the radiators off and flushed them through with the hose that a lot of black stuff came out.0 -
morning All, I didn't really do any DIY this weekend, it was one of those weekends where I didn't seem to stop, but didn't really get anything done!
We did clean out the gutter on our conservatory/porch, which was completely filled with moss and sprouting grass! It was pretty disgusting but luckily it was all dried out, so not sludgy. Then we scrubbed the roof with soapy water, looks a lot better, although there's some dirt stuck inside the plastic roof panels which we can't get out.
I also planted some courgette seeds, which I'm hoping will grow as I'm getting quite despondent with my lack of success so far! I have two tomato plants which were doing really well, flowering nicely at the moment. But over the weekend, one of them just decided to suddenly shrivel up!And my basil seedlings have died, along with my spinach and sunflowers - I think it got too hot in the conservatory for them (got up to 36deg the other day)
Oh - the front door man came round and showed us a glass sample. It's just the job, so he's ordering the door now and will be coming to fit it at the end of this month.
Received some early wedding presents at the weekend, too - not quite sure why we've been given them already, but never mind! Got some lovely White Company bedding (gorgeous feather pillows and duvet) and towels. A few people have said they're going to get us things for our garden as well, so that'll be great...although it means that we really need to finish clearing the garden, so we've got somewhere to plant things!
