Good luck with the interview latecomer :) I took redundancy last dec and started another job in Jan - redundancy for me was brilliant !!!

All windows now fitted, stunned at what a difference it has made - only issue is the back door looks really crappy now :( Must start on the loft in the coming days, get it all sprayed up and insulated.

Thanks ShimmyHill, that would be great if I can get another job in the near future but I guess we'll need to wait and see what happens. In fact I should probably be doing something other than posting on here at the moment... :D

Since my post this morning, the door company phoned to see if they could fit the door today. So i said yes and we now have a new front door! Unfortunately the excitement subsided a bit when we realised they had given us white handles instead of gold (rest of hardware is gold) and hadn't supplied the security door stay. We discovered those while the fitter was still here.

After the fitter left we were testing it and realised that because we have lever handles inside and out that the only way noone can access the house when we are in is to physically lock it. Now to me that seems daft and i never realised that that is how the door would work. I assumed i'd be able to close it from inside and engage the levers by lifing the handle without having to lock it to prevent entry from outside. Anyway i've been on to the company concerned and told them about the wrong colour handles and missing door stay plus asked if we could change to lever/pad handles which is what we had before. Apparently it requires a different mechanism so i sasked if they would replace it with something more secure. Not sure what will happen now but they said they would be in touch. I haven't paid anything yet though.

OH is taking the matter into her own hands and phoning them again. She's much more unhappy about it than me and wants them to sort it today. I have my doubts seeing as it's nearly 5pm.

Well it isn't going to be sorted today as they shut up shop at 4pm (OH drove round to see). I'm sure it'll be sorted just it's hassle i could do without.

    Good luck Latecomer! :)

Just thought I'd update you all on the bath situation (bet you are toally bored of it now!)...anyway..... after the hoo har with the "it'll be another 12 weeks wait" and me saying I wouldn't have the bathroom, they got a strong letter (no reply yet, will be sending it again and again until they do), another £50 knocked off the bathroom and 2 bereavments in the family left me little time for thought of bathrooms. Anyway, I kicked off on the phone, the bath was there within 10 days (funny how that 12 weeks suddenly reduced eh?) and they are refunding the original bath. Total cost of bathroom suite was £580, currently down to £420 ...long way to go down yet :D anyway, new bath is fine, it fits and I'm happy...can't wait to get it in now :)

Plasterer coming at the weekend yee-haw!!!! Just got some grass seed for the front too, it is looking like a different house from thr outside now!

How unfunny is gloss paint? I had a royal mare with it last weekend, and have said "i am NOT painting the windowsill, so don't even ask!!" - absolutely god awful stuff to stop from dripping!!

Met with woman from planning (permission) she came round to look and take photos, said we may have an answer by end may. Consultation period ends next week and she hasnt had any complaints, I knew she hadnt as one neighbour is my mum and the other I have known for years and they said they had no problem. apparently if there is anything she wants changed she will let us know, not sure if that was a hint that there might be or if I read too much into the remark. We will wait and see. Though its such a basic extension I not sure what she could find to pick on.

I bought some tea candles (scented) with little glass holders, couldnt resist, got them in matalan. I am going to get the chippie to make a shelf with cut outs for the glass holders. To put in the bathroom.
I said I wasnt going to buy anything until we had decorated!

This weekend we have decided to have a grand tidy up, as there is rubble and bits all over. Also will finish little jobs, before we move onto big stuff again. DH has started making a list.

TomsMom - my potatoes, runner beans and radish's are growing really well. Yes I think could grow alot of potatoes in a jumbo bag. My neighbour suggested using one for garden cuttings that wont compost and use to take to tip could be good idea.

I don't like gloss paint, can't explain why really. It's nothing to do with the painting as OH has always done that, but I suppose over the years I've seen it chipped, go yellowey and generally look tatty. I told our decorator that I'm allergic to chips and brush marks in gloss paint :rotfl: and he suggested eggshell with just a touch of acrylic gloss added for a bit of a sheen. For someone who really wanted waxed woodwork (and we didn't have the time for all the prep and trying to colour match to the doors) I have to say I'm very pleased with the way it looks, and we're assured that it wont yellow with age.
