KATIEK wrote:Thing: Anything from Lush
Bargain Price:
Cheapest place to get it: shops nationwide and mail order
Who it's suitable for: children to grannies
Any other info: This handmade toiletries shop allows you to spend as much or as little as you want. They gift wrap and sell ready made sets. No woman would decline anything from this shop.
Katie I am a huge Lush fan, I love anything form there as long as there is no glitter involved! but the gift sets this year have a huge mark up to cover the packaging, which is lovely, but on one gift it is £15 over the cost of the contents! i'd rather have the £15 to spend on more lush stuffand the delivery for mail order is £4.95 and it's not even quick to be honest.
other than that I think it is a great suggestion for people who are going to appreciate it, just issue pegs to those without colds0 -
My wants:
To come home from work and all the little DIY jobs done
Some darkroom chemicals so I can get printing photo's at home again
A sewing machine (not strictly homeware as it is more of a hobby thing - id be most upset at a hoover...)
A home cooked meal not made by me
A nice haircut and colour
And another pot of creme de la mer - i ran out and my skin knows it!
Some nice shoes and clothes
What I dont want:
Jewellery (unless its a diamond of course!)
Books
DVD's/Games
Slippers/socks/dressing gowns
Toiletries (except creme de la mer - I have stacks of everything else!)
Ive spent so much on the house and I have loads of things like jewellery etc so I dont want bog standard gifts this year - I just really want relevant things to my interests that i cant justify spending on at the moment due to more pressing needs and so I can spend my holidays doing things I enjoy instead of useless stuff I dont really need or want! Fortunately my fella is a clever guy and always gets me things I want - like creme de la mer, expensive sunglasses (when I needed some) and a kitten. Bless!

Men I found some great chocolates made from the finest Belgian Callebaut chocolate. In the shape of a handbag and shoes and my wife favourite one is the one that says mine, mine, mine yours. They start from only £3.33
Also found the SP Interactive Robot from Meccano for only £67.99 including delivery on the same site in the toy section and they had them in stock.0 -
SamC wrote:Thing: A camel
Bargain Price: only £75
Cheapest place to get it: www.goodgifts.org
Who it's suitable for: Nomadic pastoralists who eke existences by following the rain through Ethiopia, Somalia and Somaliland depend on them for food, transport and income.
Any other info: The nomads get the camel, your giftee gets a card and a warm feeling. Camels are delivered by Vetaid.
This concept isnt intrinsically female-friendly but all the women I've mentioned it to have gone "awww" and all the men have gone "huh."
Other "good gifts" on this site include bikes for midwives in developing countries (£35), new baby parcel for needy mothers in the UK (£25), bag of medicines for a vet in Africa (£45) etc.
Be careful with these gifts - they were slammed the other day in the newspapers by various charities:

Men: Please Beware - Electrical items are NOT love gifts! Do not buy them for xmas presents! (unless its a chocolate fountain from Currys for £29.99).Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0
