Hi Hypno,
I've been following your thread recently and I'm as impressed as everyone else. I'm amused at how well you're doing to clear debt whilst "on holiday" these last few days - only you! I truly do hope that you can distance yourself a little from the minutae of debt-busting and enjoy your life, your home, your partner and your beautiful children.
Degree Year two starts this weekend so I'll no longer be logged into MSE so often. I've also started freelance work as agency work is so poor... and I'm doing well already - three contracts! Not a lot of money, but having lived on £4K a year since 2004, I guess I don't need much.
I'd be happy to do a bit of ironing/housework/decluttering if you like - I love that sort of thingI'm not some mad stalker or anything... I just know that I've had people help me in the past and if I can help someone whilst and when I can, then I'd like to.
I hope you enjoy your month off.

hiphouse, if you can survive for 4 years on £4000 a year, then you are well set up to survive any recession, no matter how deep it bites! The fact that you have got three contracts already is fantastic, and must be a relief!
Work for me is still manic, and looks to be set to stay that way for a while......never a dull moment!!
I have written another article for the downloads, and am getting up to date with my ironing - the house is slowly starting to come together in terms of tidying, so I think I will get there over the next few weeks..........although tonight I will be heading for an early night instead of getting the ironing board outSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. ...that reminds me, I've got a mountain of ironing that won't do itself. Sine I can't go pole dancing tomorrow, I think I'll do it then.0

For heaven's sake hypno, I thought you were going to take it easy for a month and give us slackers a chance to catch up! I can't believe you have paid off that whole huge HSBC card in such a short time. You are amazing.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Sorry Seax! But I was helped out by that unexpected tax credit payment - that cleared off half the card in one go! So it is not all my own work!
One problem is that although I am trying to reduce the "little stuff that takes huge amounts of time", I have already got booked in for October several teaching jobs/workshops and mystery shops, so the "backing off" might not show until November, if that makes sense!
The other problem I have is that with house prices coming down, there are some fab fab properties coming to the market in my dream area that would be affordable if it were not for the debt, so I really really want to get rid of the debt before prices rise again, and I want to keep on debtbusting at a huge rate of knots!

BAAAARRRRRRRRRRKING er insanely so0 -
Thought I ought to clarify that £4K a year is what I've lived on after I've paid my rent, council tax, water and electric. I tallied this up after I read the MSE "live on £4K a year" thread and thought that I must have been doing that for years already
However, I'm now buffered against the recession, thanks to some healthy savings. This means I'm able to take the risk to go freelance AND reduce my hours so that I can study part-time for a degree.
I had no idea that being debt free would open up so many opportunities for me. I hope for the same for you and yours. Best wishes for your journey.

Outstanding balance £14297.54  It was originally £25,000. I pay £417 a month to it, so it will start coming down reasonably well, and then I will really feel as though I am getting somewhere!
Ok, so we're nearly into the 13's on Egg, and 13 is unlucky..... my money's on 12 something by end of November. Plus an ironing pile measured in inches, not feet :rotfl:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
