Roseby's?
Comments

My local Rosebys had a sign saying closing down followed by a sign saying sale upto 50% off - this many people have read to be 'closing down sale upto 50% off'; if the sale isn't in relation to the fact they are closing then surely this is misleading?
As there have been 2 Rosebys staff menbers post on this thread saying how well trained they staff are I am now thinking that we must be very unlucky in our town! I have been a couple of times and both time (different staff on duty) I have had very bad customer service, rude and extremely unhelpful staff! I agree with others most of their items do seem to be more expensive than the local competition!Wins:-

Don't both trying the centrurian way Rosebys in Doncaster. Despite having 'Huge sale' signs up, nothing was marked with more an a pound or two off (thats what little was in the sale - the rest is normal price).
I overheard the 2 sales assistants talking of being taken over by another company though.
As previously mentioned - don't make any special trips to Rosebys- you'll be wasting your time.July Win: Nokia 58000 -

OMG what a bitter sad bunch on here.
I am also an employee of Rosebys and after 12 years of working with them I am now unemployed.
What gets to me reading through all the negative comments is that it is common knowledge that the Joe Public read what they want to read. We had strict instructions from the administrators to what signs to put up...."closing down everything must go" and these were to run along side any current promotion that was on ie UP TO 50% 0ff selected items. Since when does closing down everything must go have sale written in it unless theres an anagram somewhere that I have missed. Maybe just maybe when all these "round trips" are being made you should take time for a break and maybe you would be able to read properly!!
If I had a penny for everytime I have been asked "how much is this in the sale" this week I would not be so worried about this sad time.
As for the comments on "crap" "overpriced" "rude" and everything else detromental that has been said have you not heard of the freedom of shopping....why are you making round trips for overpriced goods and rude customer service this week? I think we all no the answer to that and that is how sad the Joe Public is.
We pulled down our shutters for the last time tonight and staff morale stayed high and cheerfull till the end. This is a very sad time for us and all the 2,000 staff employed at Rosebys but all you have to worry about is that the quilt or curtain that you saw a few months ago did not have a few pound off of it...I THINK THAT SAYS IT ALL
Anyway thats all for my gripe I am off to surf the net to hopefully find a job.
Good luck to the 2 employees on here in finding a new job and to those who have time to search round for "closing down sales" GOOD RIDDANCE0 -

So sorry to read that you've lost your job, it's happened to me and my OH in the past as well (and OH's new job is under theat now as well).
But to answer the bit in bold, from a normal strapped-for-cash customer's point of view, I would have thought that 'closing down everything must go' should definitely mean that most things are reduced in a drastic sale, pretty sharpish.
How do they expect everything to 'go' if they don't discount the stuff? If it hasn't sold in previous weeks/months it certainly isn't going to sell for the same (quite high) price with the added major disadvantage that there will be no returns possible once the firm closes for good.
So buy a full price duvet cover set now as a housewarming pressie, find out next month that it's got a fault and needs exchanging/returning - oh dear you can't cos the shop is shut! I'm not saying that faults are likely BTW, but the ease of returns policy is something I consider when I make buying decisions...along with the price & quality/suitability.
At Roseby's at the moment they fall at the first 2 hurdles (returns policy and the price), which would be enough for me to be looking elsewhere for my linens.
That's why, as an ordinary punter, IMHO I would say they need to start discounting their stuff if they really do want everything to go. But I expect it's all in the hands of the Administrators who are hoping to sell the business as a going concern and want to get the best prices in the meantime.
Good luck to those of you losing your jobs, hope you find something even better soon.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

the parkgate branch does clearly have closing down sale hand written [badly !] on a huge poster in the window. i worked for them 11 years ago and it all started going wrong once they changed from staff ordering to automatic ordering where the shops were flooded with crap. you used to be able to get reasonably priced quality goods [janet reager etc] when i first worked for them then the names dissapeared and the rubbish appeared at inflated prices.i feel for the staff loosing their jobs as i have friends there but im sure it will be around in the future in some form or another. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am also a Rosebys employee & i agree with everthing you said. Well done for speaking out for us all :-) xxbubblepirate wrote: »As a Rosebys employee I thought I would clear a few things up.
1) No-one is yet aware of when or if we are likely to cease trading as we have been asked by the admininstrators to continue trading as normal at this present time (so I have no idea where Bensons have gotten that info (unless the branch in question was one where the rosebys was already closing before the company went into administration).
2)The instructions issued when we were advised we were going into administration were to place signs in the window advising we were closing down and NO MENTION TO BE MADE OF SALE. If the stores that you have visited have sales signs up they aren't following instructions that were issued.
3) The signs about percentages off products would be referring to specific preplanned product reductions (i.e offers already in place) and most point of sale would say UPTO 50% off and if a store has run out of the offer that is 50% off we would normally still have to keep the posters up.
4) plzhelpmesave : - We are not overpriced when comparred to the rest of the market, at my particular branch we have up until quite recently done competitor surveys and on the retail park where my branch is situtated we have Argos, Instore, Homebase and Next and over the road is Tescos and I can tell you for the same products (especially the branded items) our prices are either the same or in many cases cheaper. Another member of staff who has worked for the company for just under 20 years claims our 12 tog duvets are the same price as when she joined the company.
5) The majority of staff who work for Rosebys are highly trained (inclusive of saturday kids, and upper levels of managerment) in all products we sell, which is not the case for much of the retail sector (try going to ask what tog duvet you need for a young child or what size curtains you need or what thread count means and the reasons why these are important , in the above mentioned stores)
Just had to vent a little as I disagreed with some comments made in the thread.0 -
For all the bargin hunters looking for reduced items at Rosebys, go to your local store from tomorrow ( if its still open )where you will find 25% off MOST Blinds, Tracks & Poles, Curtains, & Quilt covers. 50% off Pelmets, & Curtain tie backs....
GO ON FILL YOUR BOOTS
Now will all you sad people stop looking to see if Rosebys have reduced any stock & GET A LIFE!!!!!
Good luck to all staff, i am one of you!

Thanks for the information about the new sale offers.
As the one who started the thread I feel I ought to fight my corner.
We are currently coming towards the end of an extension project and I am now trying to get it done as mse style as possible as this has become my way since my husband has been made redundant twice in the past so I do know from my own experience what Roseby's staff are going through, and to add to the importance of being mse right now his job is now under consultation for a third time so I am not just trying to make a buck from Roseby's employees misfortune, I am merely tring to look after my own family.
I would also point out that when I lived in Tamworth I was a loyal customer of Rosebys on Ventura Park but sadly the Lincoln branch is quite small compared to the Dunelm which offers comparable quality and price but a far larger range.
I hope things work out and the company gets taken over and retains staff but if I can save a few pounds in the sales in the meantime I will do, after all that is the reason most of us joined up to the forums in the first place. Yes I do have time to make these "round trips" as I am a stay at home mum (a lifestyle choice we as a family have made as we feel me looking after our kids is the most important job I could ever do) but it does mean money is less than it would be if I went back to work full time.
Rant over & thanks for listening!0 -
I have to agree with others...
Rosebys is very expensive. The 6 yeas that we have had 2 rosebys near us no matter how many times you go in there it was very difficult to justify buying from there.
TK Max, Argos, Debenhams were always all cheaper.
I agree the staff might be more trained, but after all it is really the price that matters to the average shopper. If the prices were reduced more would shop there.
The two rosebys we have in Camberley both have the closing down sale signs and the sales are genuinely very very poor.0
