Sky Broadband: good, bad or indifferent

I work for a call centre who provide information for sky customers, (i'm not a sky customer myself tho) BB seems fine as long as you are in the sky bb area, otherwise they only offer the £17 package. usually they will encourage you to go for a high package even tho you won't get the download speeds with the arguement there is a monthly usage allowance.
i agree with bextech about the line rental with sky, a lot of people have previously changed line rental to tiscali or talk talk, you need a bt phone line before sky can take it over, and they do charge £125, i would probably encourage people not to take line rental with sky in case they change it at a later date, plus it's only 50p extra compared to sky.0 -
also, just so people know if u do get put thru to the sky+ info line, we are a very new call centre, and know relatively little. i don't even get access to the sky.com website to help customers, and we can;t access customer account info.
also, with the BB, it's a 12 month contract. if you get the free BB, what will they do if u wish to end your contract early? and what;s to stop u downgrading to the lowest package and not using it?? would you be able to change to another provider if u were on the base package which is free, 5 months into the contract?0 -
sky BB seems to work fine/ good value if you have a good quality line and no issues that involve calling C/s, nor move house ( unfortunately I encountered all 3 last yr - nightmare, waste so much time! )Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

Any good of sky talk . plan to change broadband and bt phone line to sky
At this moment (but not for much longer) I have my line rental £10.50 with BT; unlimited calls £5 with Sky Talk; TV with Sky plus broadband free with Sky.
I am in the process of moving my calls back to BT £4.95 per month for a 12 month contract. The reason for this is that Sky have now stopped the use of the 1280 prefix that allows me to route two paid for calls via BT which keeps my caller display facility free. Rumour has it they also intend to stop the chance to use 18185 prefix for phoning mobiles.
Incidentally changing over on line yesterday meant that I also got an HP printer as a freebie - which even if I only use it until the cartridges run out, will be better than a poke in the eye with a bent stick.:T
Hope this helpsSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Hi Annie,
I'm just checking, but do you know offhand if the 0844 number is free to all Sky members or only those with Sky Talk? Not that I ever need to phone them - but it'd be useful to know since I am moving my calls package back to BT.

Only those who have Sky's talk package. As 0844 numbers are billable, there would be no way for them to get other Telco's not to charge for calling the number, plus Sky earn money from the 0844 number, whilst they are happy to not get the income from their own Sky talk customers, they don't want to lose income from other customers.
It's rare you have to call Sky and there are still working 01506 numbers for Sky, maybe some working 0800 numbers. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Many thanks for your reply - it's one of those days  and I hadn't thought it through (obviously ). I recently subscribed to the saynoto0870 site so I'll check on there before I make any calls to them once the switch over takes place.
Cheers :beer:Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever
