Cleaning/Ironing around here pays £10 an hour - hell, even dog-walking pays that

Ten hours a week would get you £400 a month :)

Thank you, you're a star! Pretty basic really I don't know why I didn't think of that! I can put an ad up in the newsagent.

Many moons ago I would get up at silly o'clock to clean the local pub where I was a barmaid in the evenings, I was saving for a summer working in Spain at the time, those were the days! Horrible job, expecially the gents toilets! I was determined though and I made enough for my summer away.

The other thing I've been looking at is those text lines. I've filled out my application form ready to scan and email to them. I'm not sure how much they pay but I thought I could try it. OH isn't too happy but they're not all 'adult' chat.

I feel like I'm about to sit an exam, got a horrbile feeling here! Half an hour to go..

    Wow, what a draining morning!

Payplan called when they said they would, and it took about 40 minutes to go through it all. They will get back to me tomorrow or Monday with some advice, so I just need to wait now.

I was doing fine until the very end of the call, when I was asked for a brief overview on how I got into this situation. I gave my brief overview and ended up in tears. I finished it with, 'Before I was made redundant and got together with my partner I wasn't in any debt'. Didn't faze the lady on the phone though, I'm sure they are used to people crying at them!

I've been here before. I got into about £15,000 worth of debt on credit and store cards when I was a student. Partly due to my own stupidity of spending money I didn't have. It took me years to get out of it, but I did, and when I was working full time in the job that made me redundant, I'd finally made it. I was living comfortably, I used credit cards to buy treats, clothes and weekends away etc, but only if I could pay the balance off in full every month, which I did.

Then redundancy and my boyfriend came along, and look at where I am now, in a worse position than the debt all those years ago.

Anyway, almost as soon as I had put the phone down to payplan, the garage called. My car failed the MOT and the costs to repair will be about £400. I just told them that I can't afford it. He seemed used to hearing it too. I've had to borrow some money from family to pay for it.

I just want to curl up and hide now, I really do. Lots of work to be getting on with though! I put together lots of invoices for customers last night, so fingers crossed the payments will come in then I have to work on their orders. All this worrying and trying to sort things out has got me quite behind with work!

Hi Shoozles. A draining morning for sure, but it's over with now and lets hope you get good news from them soon. A real shame about the MOT, but hardly surprising from all you'd said previously. Since your OH's rise I'd still do another SOA and get him to cough up his full whack, which is NOT the rent alone! Allow him to get away with that Shooxles and you're on a slippery slope. Please don't let him take you for a mug as it sounds as though he will for as long as you let him. Toughen up and get him to give instead of just taking!!!

It really does sound as though you BOTH need part time jobs, whatever you can get, to bring that shortfall in and get on with getting yourselves free of all this debt. Just a few hours extra each and life would be so very, very different. Think on Shoozles ....for both of you!

I agree with SueUU above. Sit him down now and tell him that while getting permanent work is good, you still have £400 which BETWEEN you you HAVE to earn a month take home. Tell him that until that is happening all luxuries are going to have to go and that includes sky, xbox subscription etc etc. They are LUXURIES that you don't NEED just as fast bandwidth is LUXURY even if you do have an internet business.

Until you can pay rent, counctil tax, utilities, food easily then anything else has to go to get the debts down. Sorry but this has to be BOTH OF YOU'S wake up calls NOT JUST YOURS.

Oh help please I feel sick.

I spoke to Payplan this morning, they can't help me but said I should set up an informal agreement with my creditors.

I then googled and called another number, and spoke to someone who is very nice who said I was eligible for an IVA. They are called Churchwood Financial, and after 40 minutes on the phone to them sorting it all out I have searched more on them and apparently they are no good. I have an advisor from their company coming over on Friday who wants to see my tenancy agreement, drivers license etc and they apparently according to reviews just steal your money.

I have work to do then I have to go into town and apply for some jobs and open a new bank account (advised by both payplan and churchwood) but I can't stop crying and feel sick. Have a made another big mistake?

Havent got a lot of time but just wanted to say have you tried CCCS?

Did Payplan turn you down because you are self employed? i understand CCCS have a special person/department for Self Employed.

    Here's their website:

    http://www.cccs.co.uk/
SOA = Statement of Affairs (to find a SOA Calculator, google 'make sense of cards' & click on calculators tab > Statement of Affairs)

They turned me down because I have a deficit so cant pay any money to a dmp.
Churchwood want a £450 upfront payment and then £210 per month.
I called my boyfriend because I'm so upset but he said not to worry and we will just carry on as we are. Lloyds have now given me a default and I'm scared they won't give me access to my earnings. I want to go and hire a van and leave him he has no clue and doesnt want to see.

The guy at churchwood was very helpful but i've just read the factsheet on ivas and thats not what he told me. he said it would clear my credit file too.

payplan have sent through the budget sheet but have put 40 a month for clothes and 16 for haircuts, thats just silly I don't buy those things!!!!!
