Think so - see answer 28. I am going on memory, but I'm sure I read that the qualifying date for the October dividend was around 5th September. They'd need a month for the admin.

Sharesafe is dead easy if you have your cert, and it takes 5 minutes.

Thanks for the response, I was under the impression
that as I voted infavour of the takeover, I also voted for the share swap

so if I want to sell them now I still can, according to others on here by 10.Oct.2008

how long did it take to sell them through the share centre, might look at it tomorrow night

Posted them on a Friday they were sold on the Tuesday cheque received Saturday.

You can download a form from their website - fill it in and send it with the certificate and two forms of ID and you are there. ID and confirmation of sale received back on the Wednesday.

You voted in favour of the share swap happening, but it leaves you free to do as you want with your own shares.

I have just come across this thread and i do not know if its best to sell my 500 shares or not.I am self employed and fill in my own tax return, and i do not need anymore complications. If it is best to sell them, how would i go about this, and which organisation would be the best to use.Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards

I just sold my 250 through the A & L on the telephone, depending on what type you have I think it varies! I had a few problems because they couldn't find my shares which wasn't a good start!
Check out there website, if you have 500 in a sharesafe just ring them up and tell them you want to sell them they will tell you what they are worth and how much you want to sell!

My sister who has mental health problems has some ( windfall) A & L shares. I know she won't have been able to cope with the paperwork she will have received so will presumably have done nothing. What is the default position in this case, please?
Her daughter deals with her tax and finances for her but she won't be well informed either. I have no experience of shares myself.

Newly retired, your sister will automatically receive Santander shares to replace the A&L shares.

The short answer is 'No.' The longer answer & reason is here:

While Capital Gains Tax isn't applicable at this level, your dividends should be declared as income.
