I think I'll sell mine asap. I could well do without this uk tax/spanish tax/cgt/ business. Too much complication for me.0

Bit of advice please folks, have been reading the thread
and looking to sell my 100 shares & the wife's 250 shares
now my query is I have agreed to sell/swap them for santander shares
so can I still sell them now and if so what the best/cheapest/quickest way to sell
thanks in advance for any advice0 -
Thanks, cheerfulcat. For some reason I thought the 10%/32.5% rates only applied to UK company dividends, but you are quite right that they apply to foreign dividends as well. So there is only an issue for higher rate taxpayers.cheerfulcat wrote: »UK tax rate ( BRT payer ) on dividend income is 10% though, so paying at 18% disadvantages a UK taxpayer.
I am still trying to discover what the Spanish CGT position is for UK holders of Santander shares, having read somewhere that one is expected to notify the Spanish tax authorities of any sales of Santanders.
EDIT - found this while Googling; if it's true ( will check with accountant ) then I think I'll be selling before the takeover.0 -
Can anyone tell me what the deadline is?0

Yes, because if my memory is not playing tricks, to be eligible, you had to hold them at around 5th September.0 -

Sorry, when/how did you agree to sell/swap them for Santander shares?
If you mean you voted in favour, that doesn't mean you can't sell them.
I sold mine through the Share Centre in Aylesbury - by post. They charged a total of £7.50. For you it will probably be that twice as there are two holdings.0 -

that as I voted infavour of the takeover, I also voted for the share swap
so if I want to sell them now I still can, according to others on here by 10.Oct.2008
how long did it take to sell them through the share centre, might look at it tomorrow night0 -
.....And if you have your shares in Sharesafe, it takes about a couple of minutes to sell on-line. It cost me £12.50 for 150 shares.0
