Does the Sainsburys coin counting machine give you cash in exchange for coins/notes or does it give you a voucher off shopping?

I understand they take a cut off the coins, I seen the machine in there but havent give it much notice. I just been taking loose change I have and money for kids piggy bank and wont to give them the money in notes.

I have done a count what I owe kids but I havent done mine, I assume its accurate and well take 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20, 50p etc

Any advice would be apprepiated. Thanks

Having just spent a day near one of these machines in a Sainsbury's, they take 7.9p per pound. Not bad if you have a huge pot of bronze coins, but can be a bit steep if you have a huge pot of pound coins!! The machine gives out a voucher which can be used to pay for (part of) your shopping, or you would appear to be able to cash it in at customer services.

Well £53 richer well not actually but at least its in notes/coins (inc the commision)

Kids got there money back from piggy took the commission out of my spare change. That will go into my savings jar for new stuff for our new house if we finally move :)

Machine took a while to count as I filled the slot with all the moeny and they get stuck in the small slit on the slot, better to not over fill it next time.

My OH and I have a huge pot of change collected over a long time. we sat down and spent a good few hours counting and didn't even touch half of it!!! We bagged up all the 10p, 20p and 50p and I took that to the bank (RBS) who let me deposit into my account.

There are lots of 5p, 1p and 2p left - going to use the machine for these ones!

Don't use the machines! Count it by hand.....it'll be worth it :)

well we figured that the little ones don't add up to nearly as much as the gold and silver coins and are the most trouble - I am happy to pay the price in this instance! :D

If you have a Barclays acount and live near Woking they have one of these machines which counts it all and then credits it to your account - no charge. Great fun playing with putting in lots of change.

i suggested this to my exemployers (lloydstsb) via there staff suggestion scheme 6 months ago, got a £50 voucher for putting a good idea in but they said it would be too costly to have these machines:mad:

Thats money saving Ronnie. No doubt 6 months down the line they have some graduate trainee coming up with this idea again
  • i've always given the change in at a bank where i had an account and they've been fine (although i imagine if it was busy and a large queue formed that they would be less happy!). that way no-one gets any of the money apart from me! and they give you lots of new bags to collect more in!

I went to change all the small change I had saved for my holiday. I stood and chucked it all in and then it all came back out again. A supervisor woman came over and said "Oh thats been out of order all day" when I asked why there was no sign on it she said they weren't allowed to put a sign on and they couldn't get through to the company. So I trundled off to the bank with it...
