Theres a machine at most Asda's where you tip all the change in and it sorts it out and gives you notes for it. It's quite good watching it all being sorted out.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I must try that out, I haven't seen those machines before.0 -
Hi there,
I have an online banking account and have decided that instead of bagging the change, whenever I run out of cash I put it back in my purse and then transfer the equivalent amount, usually five or ten pounds into my online savings account from my current account. That way I am still saving it, but it is not building up at home. Have been doing this with two pounds, one pounds, twentyp's five p's, 2's and 1's.0 -
The machines in ASDA are called Coinstar and charge a very small commission.0

I think some of us call 7% NOT a very small commission, especially considering it's usually quite small amounts of change to begin with!pinkpauline34 wrote:The machines in ASDA are called Coinstar and charge a very small commission.
There was a looooong discussion about change a while back ... and the Coinstar machines were well and truly slated by most people! Here it is - actually I'm not sure if it's the one I remember, but 'twill do ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I use up my loose change on a regular basis at the Self Service Tills at Tesco. The money I then woudl have spent on my debit card on the shopping that week then gets transferred online into a savings account.0

please don't do this , this is definately not moneysaving ... robbing b*****s
instead if you have it bagged up take it the customer services desk in Asda and sometimes they'll happily change it for you for no fee, 0% , 0.00pence.
Then again the business section of my bank - halifax , happily accepts it also.
sorry black-saturn if i sound bitter , but after saving my loose coins for a long long time, and someone recommending these machines i lost £75 on the deal , the night before i went on holiday  , when i went to customer services to "cash in" my voucher the cs girls said they would have taken it off my hands for 0%.
So now i would like to see these machines thrown off a very very high building, set on fire , or otherwise destroyed ...........

Was £75 a typing error? How much did you put in the machine?0
-
no , unfortunately it's not a typo ! and as i said it was our holiday spending money.
