    hi everyone,
due to a lack in money at the mow, i've decided to count out all my saved coppers + silver coins, i have a grand total of £200 which i could REALLY do with in the back right now -however they only accept 5 bags at a time -this would take forever for me to pay in -i asked if i could make an appointment to pay it all + they made every excuse in the book to stop me it was laughable!

does anyone know anywhere or how i can pay in -or exchange for notes elsewhere please .....i'm desperate!

    thanks.

I would not accept that from my bank. I'd bag it all up in the correct amounts in the correct bags, walk in and just start depositing. I would get quite upset if I was told I couldn't put my money into my account.

I'd close my account if they argued. Mind you, Barclays have never batted an eyelid, and I've been in there with 10+ bags at a time. Try not to go when it's busy.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

As mentioned try and do this off peak. Some banks do have a limit on this as ridiculous as it seems.

If all else fails take the larger denomination bags first so you can bank a higher value of bags.

Try a different cashier, some seem more lenient than others.

Rejoin the queue and do 5 more? I know, its stupid, but if you can't beat 'em , join 'em.

    I agree with 'im :D

Otherwise you could just take 5 bags to all the banks and post offices in your area, but I definatly wouldnt use on of those coinstar thingys they charge you 7.9% on every pound, so you are losing nearly 8p for every pond, and it all adds up.

If they were making every excuse in the book about arranging an appointment for you to pay it all in, I would ask the person giving you every excuse and say "ok, can you give me the number for your head office, so I can find out how to pay this money into my bank account". Remain calm.

If they won't give the number, request to speak to the manager. If the manager behaves or says the same, ask them how you can access the information you require, which is how to pay the money all in one go into your bank account.

If they continue to say "it can't be done", remain calm, and ask them the head office number for complaints, becuase you know they will be able to advise and help you pay your money in.

If they won't give it, remaining calm, you can say "I'd like to make a *formal* complaint on the basis that I have money to pay in which I need to pay in now, which you say you are unable to take". "Can you tell me what the first part of the formal complaints procedure is, so I can follow it through correctly" I think they are obliged to tell you what the complaints proceure is, as well.

That's what I'd do. You'd probably find they'd agree to pay the money in quite quickly after that, before going through the formal complaints procedure. That's the long version. You might find that you get somewhere else trying the above suggestions first.

    Good luck!

thanks everyone, the bank in question here is Abbey. i did say that i would then make 40 trips to pay in each 5 bags one after the other, they said you can try but we won't be able to 'hold' it all here. It was the manager i spoke to + she had a silly answer every time.

i shall follow your calm advice when i try my other bank halifax + see what they're response is.

    thanks again.

I saw on this forum that someone started a "£2 club" or something, where they saved their £2 coins. I've got two piggy banks from PigsBack - one for 1p and 2p coins, the other for 5p and 10p coins - and the only coins I'm allowed to spend are 20p and upwards. During my uni years I had £13 worth of 1p, 2p and 5p coins at one point, which was spent on a night out.

I don't know how much I have in there at the moment, but every penny will go either into savings or paying off my horrendous debt. See my progress at http://www.dmfund.tk, which has more info.

Something that may be of use when you have reached your target - think Sainsburys have change machines in their entrances which you just load in all your change and gives you credit off your shopping
