Hmmm... It does appear that they haven't released any discount tickets yet.
I'd try agin much closer to the time, say 29 days, 15days and 9 days prior, and don't be scared of buying a good priced single when you see it in the hope that you can match it up with another cheap ticket later.
Thank you very much for looking for me and for the advice.
Two tickets are now showing at £116 which is so much better. I called off at Man Picc today and asked for information and a I really helpful guy said the advanced tickets had not been published and to keep trying but don't leave it too long.
I shall keep looking each day but it will be sods law I will leave it too long and even the £58 tickets will have gone. Decisions, decisions.0 -

Thank you,
I did mean the bus link but I thought it was £5 each trip so there is £10 saved. Yep hand luggage will also shave of some £s.0 -
Try inputting from Preston to edinburgh. If I go to the NW I always buy a ticket from preston to glasgow or edinburgh and just a single to m/ch or liverpool or warrington etc it always saves at least a 10 and that is walk up. The advance fare is the same usually as cheap as £9 from preston. The advance fares will be out soon but might be another 2 weeks. I'd do what he said just keep an eye out. The worst is a walk on fare of 27.50 single from preston and 4 single each way ie 63 each. but you will get cheaper as the new transpennine offers have pushed the fares down. -£11 ed-m/ch0

Thank you that's very reasurring. I will check out the Preston to Edinburgh. Gosh I did not know buying a rail ticket could be so complicated but I have to say it has been interesting.0 -
I am still trying to get advanced rail tickets from Manchester to Edinburgh, I check every day many times and nothing is showing for the dates 15th-19th December. I have also been looking at the seat reservations and up until this week you could only reserve seats up to and including the 12th December, now they have missed out the week 15-19 and you can reserve seats for the Mo and Tu of the week following! Can any give me any information as to why the week commencing 15/12 should not be appearing for cheap advanced travel and seat reservation? Getting a bit desperate.
I have emailed Travelodge to see if I could change dates to the week earlier 8th-12th but as I got them in the winter sale I doubt they will change for the same money. However, I am waiting their reply, as I know I can get cheap rail tickets for that week.
Thanks for reading.0 -

I've seen this happen a few times before and it was when work was sheduled on the line. I'd phone Virgin Rail to see if this is the reason. If it is, that's your levering power with the Travelodge because the situation is out of your control (and don't forget to tell them that you don't drive

Thanks so much, that is very useful info. I will 'phone Virgin and check out what's happening that week.
