Hi The heat exchanger went on my 14 year old Gloworm boiler at beg of Dec last year. The callout firm told me about Warmfront and arranged everything. I got a Baxi Solo with condensing pipes fitted, some gas and water piping moved as boiler could not go in same position as previous one, the plume/chimney (African Queen jobbie!), two replacement radiators, Spirovent (sort of filter/gunge collector on pipes!), temp sensor in garage (sort of frost stat) new Honeywell programmer/timer, two new Honeywell zone valves, new Grundfoss pump, room thermostat that can be moved around (radio one). All came in at £2.400 just under the maximum grant, so it cost me nothing. (I am a pensioner, state pension, occupational pension and DLA.) The whole arrangement was completed in three weeks from discovering leak to installation. I cannot praise the installers highly enough. They kept me informed step by step during the day, heating went off at 8.30 am and was back on at 3.30 pm.0

Good morning: The Glow-worm 30HX has a high output...how big is your Mum's house? The quote should include a powerflush and a superior boiler with a longer parts and labour warranty for that price. The OH just finished a similar install (with less straight forward flueing... the flue parts required to conform with Building Regs for this installation were pricey) in Greater London but used a Viessmann (5 year warranty) for less than £4000 all in. More on the specification and installation of gas central heating is available from the Energy Saving Trust

Hi
thank you for you for being so helpful!!
She has a 4 bedroomed detached house in Norfolk, so would say this quote is very high or just a bit over the top?0 -
I had a very similar job done last year and it cost about £2000.
Looking at your list, I had the following equivalent work for the £2000+VAT. I am in Oxford in a 2 bed semi:
take out existing boiler hot water cylinder and all redundant pipework YES
flush out rads and pipework YES
supply and install YES
glowworm flexi con 30hx condensing boiler (YES but a valient)
glowworm standard flue and plume management kit YES
manga clean central heating filter NO
honyewell timer and controls YES
grundfos pump and valves NO
range indirect hot water cylinder NO
thermostatic and lock shield valves to existing rads NO
all copper tube and fittings YES
sentinal x 100 inhibitor YES
all assoc elec work YES
gas safety cert supplied on completion YES0 -
Good afternoon: A Norfolk based CORGI called gas4you gives good advice on the diynot plumbing and heating forum. If you contact him he could give you a better idea of costs/give you a quote (or he could be the CORGI who has quoted
) As I posted previously, there are many variables at play here: someone local would be best placed to advise as I don't know what labour costs would be up in Norfolk.

Hi..I remember posting on your thread in the spring...I thought you were getting a condensing combination boiler rather than a heat-only boiler with cylinder?

Your advice was very appreciated at the time.
My lack of knowledge in this area is obvious- I never picked up the difference between what the OP was proposing to do and what I had done- you are right, we are talking apples and pears, so OP, please ignore my post!0
