I think Electron also may have daily limits , when i tried to buy euros online it got rejected , travelx said they think it has a £300 daily limit .

I have bought a laptop online with my Electron which was £1300.
  • I used to have one with my LLoyds TSB account, but it was upgraded to a full Visa Debit when I switched to a different current account. I encountered a few problems when I had an Electron card when trying to shop online, but it was a godsend when booking with Ryanair. Really miss it now when booking flights!
  • Hi John, I hope this is not too late, but you can get a prepaid Visa Electron card.
There are a couple available. Check visa-electron.co uk

  • Just treid to open a basic bank account with Co-op but alas they stopped providing the Visa Electron card

    I'll try halifax
  • you want an easy cash account not card cash as they are 16-17 year olds.

Easycash is for anyone over 16
  • got my electron card this morning after applying 10 days ago. didnt get a confirmation email so i thought i'd been rejected. i hate the principle of paying ryanair and easyjet any more money than i have to.
  • There was an article on BBC Moneybox on Sat 28th that some suppliers are phasing out Electron: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8384034.stm

For anyone waiting or struggling to find a provider urgently - why wait? I signed up for and loaded up an Entropay card and bought the flights within 10 mins. Cost: £3 Saved: £40 (so £37 saved)

Of course, it's better to avoid the "loading fee" of Entropay if you're buying loads, but for one-off emergency purchase it's great.

Everyone who flys budget airlines should have a Halifax Easycash account.
  • Just used my Halifax Visa Electron card for the first time today - Marrakech for £16 return, bargain! Well worth it IMO.

this happened to me too... at time of applying they assured me it was an electron, but then when the card came through it wasnt. so i called up and they said they dont issue the electron anymore and the one they'd supplied was better  not much help for ryanair flights tho!! the prepaid card sounds good might look into that
