Odd he would say this as they are still advertised on the website with the Easycash account..
"Pay for goods and services with your Visa Electron debit card. Wherever you see the Visa Electron sign in the UK and when travelling abroad**. You can also use it to get cashback and for shopping online."

Electron has no daily limits but available funds, but in this case it probably was seen as a cash withdrawal.
With my Abbey account, I have an Electron as well as an ordinary VISA debit card. I can find virtually no difference between the two cards. I do not know any retail outlets, who do not accept Electron cards for transaction(it used to be different seven years ago, when I first got the card). It equally works for the on-line transactions I use: Paypal, amazon etc. (Only my local council does not accept them for on-line payments. Don‘t know about the town hall.)
Yes, there might be difficulties when the network is down and the retailer cannot accept the Electron card (the card needs a sanction every time, while the standard debit card does not need a sanction up to a certain limit), but how often does that happen?
With all the monies the card has saved me on Easyjet and Ryanair flights, I would be willing to pay for the card. That might be the way, things will develop; as on the continent Electron functions as a pre-paid card.0 -
Another one for Coop Cashminder. I really really impressed with them. I was desperate for a new bespoke PC to be delivered as I work from home and even though I was out they went out of their way to leave a message on my answerphone to say the CHAPS payment gone through. I gave them permission to leave messages on my answerphone.
Just excellent. Thanks to this forum I have applied for a full Premier A&L Current Account on Thurs and been accepted but will still keep and use my Coop Cashminder.:j
Used the Coop for 18 months and they are the best bank I have used.
You get a Visa Electron card. They also report to Experian so it benefits your credit rating. On my Credit Reports its says Coop Current Account with 18/19 green ticks:j0 -

I had plenty of funds to buy my euros , but it wouldnt work .
As I said I have had problems with a few places recently taking this card ( all online transactions ) I went to pay off my credit card again it wouldnt take it online , but they took the details over the phone . I have found it more hassle then its worth tbh and i will just stick to my debit and credit cards
A few years ago i tried buying 4 flights to the US online with BA using my maestro card , again they wouldnt accept it because of limits put in place and authorisation was needed , at the time ( dont know about now ) BA didnt have a system in place to request authorisation for onlime bookings .
*** edited to say i have just re read your post lol , as yes it probably was treated as a cash withdrawel , hence the limit ...............though using my maestro card was treated as a cash withdrawel? ******0 -
Just taken your advices and phoned Co-Op in true Moneysaving style rang them on their "dialling from overseas number" 01695 53760 instead of the 0845 number and got myself a shiny new Electron card to be delivered within 7 days. When asked why I wanted this account over their other types, said to avoid Ryan Air charges and the assistant laughed and said okay....told me this is a card people with financial difficulties use, especially bankrupts?
Do you have to keep a minimum balance on the card?SallyD0 -
DorsetJohn, Abbey could send you an Electron, they just need to go on sales portal and use the card upgrade screens on customer holdings. Alternately open an Instant Plus account with them as that has Electron card with it as a second account.0

Where is the best bank ( easiest ) to get an electron card from . I have an abbey account with a visa debit card . Went in and asked them for an electron card on that account and they refused , saying it was a step down from the visa debit . I explained that I knew that , but wanted it for flights etc. they still refused . Any suggestions guys
