hello everyone
Where is the best bank ( easiest ) to get an electron card from . I have an abbey account with a visa debit card . Went in and asked them for an electron card on that account and they refused , saying it was a step down from the visa debit . I explained that I knew that , but wanted it for flights etc. they still refused . Any suggestions guys
thanks

I know the Halifax offer one on their cardcash account.
HTHBetween two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before0 -
The Co-op Cashminder (Basic Bank Account) gives a Visa Electron.
Its possible to set it up and have the card within a week or so either at a branch or over the phone. You can also pay in and withdraw cash at Post Offices if there isn't a Co-op bank near you.

Endorse what Peter said open the co-op cash minder account. I phoned the co-op bank last week, thursday I think. I explained why i wanted to open the account, soley for ryan air flights, the guy was very helpful, after 10 minutes of the usual questions, how long have you lived at your current address, employment etc he told me i had been accepted. The paperwork came through on tuesday and my lovely shiny electron card arrived yesterday. I plan to go to the local post office to desposit £200 then I will be ready the next time i need to book a ryanair flight.0

I would avoid HBOS.
I opened an easycash account with them, and sure enough got my card within a week or so.
However, they opened 2 accounts for me, and I now remember they have the same clunky customer service as when I gave up on their high interest savings account a few years ago.
Getting them to cancel the 2nd duplicate account has been a nightmare - 20 minutes on the phone to 7 different people, including being transferred and having to set up security details before I'm allowed to transfer back and go through security to close the account - what kind of nonsense is that? And still it's not closed, they've today sent me a form I have to sign and send back at my expense (except it's a new account so they don't have my signature) I raised the lack of signature with the girl who was handling the closure, and she said in that case they may later write to me to reuqest me to phone them to go through security to close it. I explained that was precisely what I was doing in the current phone call, so what is the point of a subsequent couple of letters and new phone call!!!
Complete shower, avoid them if there is an alternative like the Co-Op. In fact I may open a Co-Op account and close this one, it's got off to such a bad start.0 -

My Electron card is with Abbey. I opened a business account with them several years ago, but never used it. (It was for something I was thinking of doing but never bothered in the end.) It was dormant for ages although they kept sending me statements every month.
We were booking some flights to Ireland last year and MrsS said they would only cost 1p each if we had an Electron card. I remembered this account and sure enough the card was Electron. There had been about £20 in the account all that time. So we used it and, sure enough, the amount debited for the 4 flights was 4p.
We now top up the card as needed and have used it for several more flights. I have no other dealings with Abbey whatsoever. Their customer service is supposed to be poor so my main business account is elsewhere.0 -
Oddly enough I went in Halifax today to draw out the money i had saved for my holiday to put into my Natwest account because i found very few people will take the Electron. I mentioned this to the cashier and he said few retailers will take it because it costs them more to process accounts and he said halifax no longer issue Electron.
I think Electron also may have daily limits , when i tried to buy euros online it got rejected , travelx said they think it has a £300 daily limit .0 -

Certain airlines don't charge a fee if you use one to book.0 -
I've had an Electron card for 3yrs through The Co-operative Bank. So far i've found it to be a better bank than my last one...25yrs with Alliance & Leicester (& not as much as a watch when i left them!).:T0
