Creation Consumer Finance - Warning

I was really dismayed to read this thread....and astonished that my problem is not isolated.
I bought a PC from Dell on interest free credit, (only if you pay within 12 months). The usual.
I actually got a letter from them to give me time to pay them - but I actually got this after I decided to pay.
I was pleased to see there was an option on the web site to pay by credit card.
The amount they told me they were taking corresponded to what I expected to pay.
So like many other forumites, I was astonished to see they took another £30 without telling me.
I managed to talk to someone, who told me that they also took a 4% charge. He told me this was clearly stated in my terms and conditions - it is not, of course. Neither could he tell me exactly where it states this. The acknowlegement email certainly omitted to mention this.
I was asked to write to customerenquiries@creation.co.uk which I have done, but now I see I am unlikely to get any response...
This is a scummy way of doing business and I am very angry and will take it as far as I can to get my money back.0 -
Contact the FOS and the FSA and report them. Send the terms and conditions to the FOS and ask them to help you get your money back. The more complaints sent in about this lot the more chance there is of them being stopped so they can't rip anybody else off. They're getting away with it, time it was stopped.0

As Brock said the FSA do not regulate creation it is the FOS and the OFT.
In response to rock-on They will keep records of all calls letters and complaints and if you are getting calls or letters from them it is because they have loaned you money and you have failed to pay it back at the agreed time. This is not harassment, you should be aware of who has loaned you money, so if you've cancelled your DD or done an indemnity for this "company you've never heard of" it is your fault.
In response to djhm, it states in this thread that they charge £3 for using a debit card and 4% for a credit card. there may have been a £30 cost for the finance which would be in the contract.
My advise would be always read the contract, there is no pressure to read it in the shop, you can cancel within 7 days if you're not happy. Pay by bank transfer as it is free and you are responsible if a cheque gets lost or bounces.
Always pay before the interest free period expires, all agreements after Jan 2011 will have reminder letters but you should keep a close eye on your finances without having to be reminded. If you pay monthly always check your DD with your bank and make sure payments are on time, if it is late due to your or your banks mistake it will cost you extra. Some agreements are still interest free even if you pay monthly.
Their correct contact details are below and they have always been fair and helpful when I have dealt with them.

It is stated on the agreement each time exactly when the payments are due, and as quite a few of mine have been buy now pay later's, the paperwork shows the special offer period and when it will go into direct debits and have the interest charged.
I called up with the first agreement to see how to make the payments, and a very helpful girl told me about the charges with a debit and credit card but that depending on the timescale there is also the option of a bank transfer and sending a cheque. I've had no problems with paying, and with one of the purchases, the special offer date was the next day and i hadn't remembered, and called up and was told that i could make a payment even on the same day with a card and it'll go through straight away. I've always had my receipts when they've said and every person i've spoken to over the last 5 years has been very polite and professional.
I think as long as you stick to the paperwork you're given, and actually read the terms and conditions, then creation consumer finance ltd is a great company to go for, but always check what you're signing. Looking at a lot of these posts, it seems to be people who think they were mis-sold or weren't told the full details with the shop assistant... Who's at fault there then?
HEY charlie,,how much have they paid you to post...at the end of the day you are just a slave like us all.....stop doing the devils work..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

Why can you dicks not be upfront and admit you work for this terrible company but it looks like being underhand is normal..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?

It is so obvious that they work for the company. 99% of people complain about them but these new posters are just singing their praises. I have had no bad dealing with creation, but I don't like them advertising like this.0 -
I currently have a case open with the Financial Ombudsman due to Creation Consumer Finance refusing to fulfil their legal obligations as regards several thousands pound finance for a Computer System refund that they owe me. So far, it has dragged on since May 2011, and Creation have been the worst company I have ever dealt with in my 40 years on this Earth. What they do is actually criminal - they have broken the law in my case, and I would be surprised if I am not one of hundreds or thousands of people in the same boat.
They fail to respond to letters, have not followed a single line of their own complaints procedure, and are in breach of section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
They refuse to discuss my case on the phone with me at all, and will not put me through to the person who is dealing with my case - one Emma Jackson - because 'you can't speak to the complaints department over the phone', and I've received a letter from them today where the person dealing with my complaint has got all the details of the case wrong. I have asked for it to be passed to Management several times over the past 9 months, as is my right under their complaints procedure - and they have never done so.
Stay away from Creation Consumer Finance, they're just a bunch of cowboys who take advantage of poor people. I am disabled, and they have ruined my life over the past year.
Edit to add - I nearly forgot, despite this case being with the Financial Ombudsman and the law clearly being on my side, Creation took just under £100 out of my bank account right before Christmas. Fortunately, my bank are more helpful than Creation, and took it back off them.
E2A 2 - removed the line where I called Emma an idiot because it's not nice to say things like that, even when it's true.0 -
My brother in law is getting a letter every week from them .His wife died in october and her bank accounts were closed, so direct debits werent paid . We have sent letters and copies of death certificate but they choose to now address letters to brother in law demanding payment. I should add the debt was in my sister in laws name alone.0

I have 'Equifax credit watch' so I know that Creation have done two credit searches on me over the xmas period. We didn't leave the house that much over xmas, I certainly didn't buy anything on finance, and yet they won't let me speak to their fraud department unless I have an account number.
I've tried explaining that because someone has fraudulently used MY details to open an account, hence the searches against MY name, that I don't have an account number. Because it's fraud, the crook has the account number. Not me. I offered to try and catch the crook and ask him for the account number, but she didn't seem to realise that I was joking.
A little bit like the other poster on here who can't be put through to the relevant department, their attitude is basically 'unless you're paying off a balance we really can't be bothered with you, so go away' - the fact that my credit report shows two unauthorised searches from their company doesn't bother them at all, and they refuse to have anything to do with me.
Their working practices are disgraceful and their customer handling skills are virtually none. God help anybody who willingly enters into any sort of agreement with these b*stards.0 -
They appear not to like the idea of paying off early - Our first of 36 monthly 'no interest' payments of £25.13p is due 24 Jan 2011. Phoned them today, 19 Jan, with an offer to pay off £500 of a £905 total today and suggested 'could I then pay the balance of £405 off over the next 12 months, rather than 36 months'? This drew a dismissive response along the lines of 'You can, but we'll still take £25.13p a month til its gone'. I tried to explain I was happy to give them £34 a month for 12 months to get it paid off in one year, but they seemed so intransigent, I decided against it after all. Strange people - a credit company that seems not keen on an early repayment of a debt ? Why ??0
