If you are on cable broadband with Virgin you don't need a MAC

As above if you are on cable broadband you do not need a MAC.

It is is you are on ADSL you need a MAC as ADSL uses the BT infrastructure where as cable has its own infrastructure.

If you are on cable and are switching to Sky for broadband make sure you have a BT infrastructure line.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I think when people mention they are on Virgin they do need to state whether ADSL or cable as it leads to too much confusion.

Virgin ASDL does seem to be ropey at times of late.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem getting a MAC out of them.

Virgin ADSL customers do seem to have some harsh traffic management.

  • If you wish to cancel your Virgin Media Non-Cable broadband service, you'll need to give them 30 days' notice. They reserve the right to apply a £50 cancellation charge if your service is cancelled within 12 months of activation.

I've been a little bit naughty and told a porky. I'm pretty garbage (understatement) with money and am with Virgin. Seeing as the connection constantly failed I decided to go with Sky. Got connected to Sky over the weekend and it seems fine. Problem is that I have demands from Virgin for a good few quid. Rang Virgin and asked them why they were billing me as I cancelled a couple of months ago. Bloke apologised and said he's zeroed my account and disconnected me. If that's the end of it I've had a right result.

    Wish me luck!

Sure it wasn't 8Mbit? as 10Mbit is cable broadband. Requiring a MAC suggests ADSL.
