erm, I didn't want a kilo. Just two small fillet steaks. Would cost you about £20 in a restaurant!

Not sure the restaurant reference means anything.

I regularly eat at a place where I can get 2 x 10oz Rump steaks (+ chips or jacket spud, peas and salad) PLUS a BOTTLE of wine for a TOTAL of JUST £14.99 - and very tasty & good quality it is :)

I also know a place where you CAN'T buy a bottle of wine for less than £14.99 (and they sell exactly the same bottle as the 1st place) and their 8oz Rump steaks start at £15.99 each. ... and the meal is no better than the other :(

I've been to the first probably 100 times over the last 10 years or so, the latter only 3 times for a "special" occasion but there probably won't be a 4th :(
(Up until about 4 years ago it was only £9.99 for the 2 Rumps + bottle of wine special)

However back to the Lidl fillet steak - "Just two small fillet steaks" - Yes they are small - only 6 ounces each - works out at £20.56/kg

I can buy Fillet tomorrow for (at the very most) just £18.99/kg and quite possibly even cheaper :j

Actually I've never eaten in a Wetherspoon .....

.... sank a few pints of various brews from Ruddles, Wyre Piddle, Adnams, Thorneybridge and numerous others  for a VERY small sum of money - as low as 99p per pint only a few months ago :rotfl:

My steak special is at a local hostelry - belongs to a small independent local(ish) chain that I think has just 5 establishments in the group

Lidls - Advocaat Barrels - like chocolate liquers with an advocaat creme - not bad for 99p 150g

Would that be King Henrys Taverns perchance ? If not give us a clue.
  • I assumed Wetherspoon too! Where is it then?

    Well spotted there :)

Yes King Henry's it is - just looked and there are now 6 of them.

My local is the Ragley Boat Stop

4 of us go quite often and since 3 of us order ours BLUE (plus a rare) they can't hide a poor steak (with fat or sinew etc.) on our table

Think we've requested a replacement on about 3 occasions - that would be out of over 400 steaks I reckon

So I'm guessing Blobby that you are also fairly local ?

Still loving the avatar Mr Baker :)

Anyone else tried the chips in a blue bag from aldi, they arent too bad, i think they are better than some supermarkets own brand
  • Will have to read through the 49 pages before.

    In the meantime:

    From Aldi:

    - caramel-flavoured rice cakes (low fat and 99p for 100g)
    - shower gel at 45p (smells peachy)
    - bread (half w/m - half white), thinly sliced - I don't like thick slices and either w/m or white bread
    - fruit and veg (but they don't keep well)
    - dry chili flakes
    - children toothbrushes (the toothbrush bottom flashes and stops when the teeth have been brushed long enough)
    - milk at 65p/litre
    Keep calm and carry on
