Nitnedo stuff lasts too. My kids had a party last year and late in the night about 20 of them were all playing pokemon mini games. We have had it so long it is now "retro" so cool.
I agree aobut the age groups I like playing with my dd DS too.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Sad to answer your question with another question, but how many games does your mum buy?
A sad downside of selling to non-serious gamers is that they're actually *non-serious gamers* as it turns out and they don't buy a whole bunch of games, unlike serious gamers, who'll buy loads.
(If you don't believe me, look at the pile of wii games next to my mum's wii, then the pile of 360 games next to the 360...wanna wager a bet which ones 5x bigger?)
Perhaps, then, it's not that nobody thought of selling a games console to people that don't buy games before, perhaps they did think of it, but just didn't think it was a smart idea...
Sadly, a console that effectively ignores the "core" customer base is never going to do great long-term in terms of game sales (whilst the hardware sales remain impressive). For the casual gamer, the 3 or 4 strong titles available probably make the wii worth the outlay, for anyone that's going to spend serious money on the platform (ie buy more than 3/4 games...), it's just an expensive doorstop.
Given the comparatively slim profit margins on hardware (although, granted, the underpowered wii is much cheaper to produce than the others..and in fact sells for more than the 360 now...) and the comparatively high profit margins on software, I'm not sure the model nintendo are adopting is really the way forward - coupled with their snub on "grown up" games and the fact that, to date, it's only been Nintendo games that have really got the best out of either the wii itself or wii fit.
It's also optimistic at best to believe the "proper" consoles will wait til the next generation to get in on the action - the next update of the 360 includes calibration for motion sensing controls...so they're not far away. When there's a games console that functions as a "family friendly hub" (don't worry, MS have nicked the mii idea in the next update too...) that can also play real, current gen games, the wii's going to have to work a bit harder...and having alienated both game writers and game buyers, they're going to struggle.
All my mini-rant aside, the bare bones of the matter is that, for a games console, the wii has *very few* games that are actually worth playing for any length of time. Which is frustrating...I play the wii golf, I think it's great - I'd love to get a proper golf game that uses that controller...oh wait...the only golf games out look *pathetic* next to, say tiger 09 on the 360 and they just don't harness the wiimote in the same way the nintendo version does...the same's true of wii fit...where's the follow up skiing game, with more courses, more events...there isn't one. (well, there is one, but it *ain't good*)...
The stock nintendo games feel like demos and lack *any* depth. The good third party games few and far between. It's a great idea, with no real execution...and as such...*fairly pants*...
You'll note the word "sadly" appears a lot in this post...I had a wii on day of release, really wanted to be blown away by it and was at first...It's remarkably well put together, a polished interface, a good idea...but that lasted about 3 days with me, then I was utterly bored with the games that I'd got and had no inclination to buy any of the other titles available. Then I was left with a little white brick.
(sorry to go off on one, a bit, just get wound up when things aren't done as well as they could be..)0 -
I preordered this from Amazon a few weeks ago, looks like it could be good for keeping the kids amused on rainy sunday afternoons!Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0

Well I have to say that the pile of games next to 'my mums' Wii is actually the same quantity as what's next to our PS3 and we play both pretty much, equal lenghts of time. The Wii would be on a bit more if I'd chosen Rock band for the Wii,but I went with the PS3.I do however have Guitar Hero on both consoles.
Sure it could have been better and what not,but for your average family who aren't die hard gamers (which lets face it the Wii is not really aimed at) it's a lot of fun for all the family.0 -

If your mum loves the wii or ds, then it ensures the kids will have one in the house - after all, if your mum uses it, it would be hypocritical not to let the kids use it too!!! Get the mum's on-side and you have sold the console to the whole family. My mum now loves guitar hero - the 'old folks' are not just into buying 'brain training' these days - even if that is the initial 'hook'... (although I can't imagine my mum playing shoot 'em ups...)0 -
My mum has just as more games for her wii than we do our consoles. Her and my dad love it, plus they are great for get to gethers ect and I have to say you do need a wide variety of games for it so it doesn't become stale!0

just realized that I'm probably the same age as a hell of a lot of 'mums' out there..... I think I may have inadvertently called myself an old fart.....:eek:0

The SAD thing is that you are a SERIOUS gamer. I don't know about everyone else, but I play mine for FUN!
