the £75 CB money goes into the current account where our salaries are also paid into and is used up with all the direct debits / shopping etc

DD gets £23 (CSA money from ex) spending money a week and out of that she buys her toiletries, make-up, days out with friends and and birthday/christmas gifts etc

I buy her school clothes and casual clothes, shoes and school lunches

    :)

Maybe she just uses it for day to day living and bills. So essentially it is going on the kids.

I don't give my daughter pocket money as she gets that from her grandparents. I maybe use my CB to pay a bill but then later in the week she gets taken to the cinema. I don't demand the money from her as 'it's my money'. It's all swings and roundabouts really.

Until you live in a household I don't think it's fair to pass comment on how someone else runs their budget.

i think when/if i have children i will possibly save half use half for essentials.

Is it written down anywhere that child benefit should be used for treats and pocket money? No, I didn't think so.

Maybe she saves half and uses half for essentials ;)

We pay ours into an account through Coventry BS, where if you have Child Benefit paid into it directly, the interest on the account is higher.

I am fortunate enough to have been able to put our cb away in the hope that it will see them through university without having to spend too much time trying to make ends meet by working.

That will buy a load of booze!
  • My older 2 get theirs in pocket money. I spend the rest on things like clothes, trips, b'days etc!

One way or another it gets spent on the kids - everything does!!! lol!

£20 per month goes in his bank acount, and the rest is in the pot which pays for a magazine subscription, his clothes, toys, Christmas, Birthdays, outings... infact there is no way his CB covers everything he has so perhaps i'll start charging him rent..... anyone want a 4 year old chimney sweep?
