I have powershift as well although we use around 3-4 pounds per day if it's a good day it is under the three... i have given up using my dishwasher never realised it was high on usage and i prefer to use the tumble dryer instead as i hate clothes hanging a round the house on a wet day. so for the moment i have rough hands for washing dishes..lol..

Anyone got a comparative guide of kilowatt consumption per hour for the top ten electrical items used in a home, or even per cycle consumption for a typical heavy use item.....?

Am seriously thinking of getting the powershift device/scheme.....currently in a 4 bed home using £1000pa!

I use a monitor, OWL brand from Argos. 34.99. You connect a CT and transmitter to the live cable coming fron your meter, this is done by clamping the unit to the cable, there is no electrical connection needed.
This transmits to a hand held display unit, which can be set in a kitchen window etc. The hand held unit is programmed for 4 tarriffs if you wish, on powershift. within 2 seconds of switching on a toaster, Kettle, washing machine, tumble dryer etc, you can see how much the current cost per hour. This also gives KWhs and Carbon footprint. Historey is held and you can check yesterday, last week, last month, last quarter and last year cost of electricity use. On the down side you can not programme the wekend rates which are different than weekday on powershift.

Alternatively you can buy cheaper units on the internet to give you the current KWhs being used and can easily establish the load of each appliance by switching off everything else and going through the procedure of checking each one.

Got this installed last Monday, painless , took 15 mins, then he talked my wife through it, bought £50 of electricity, watching our consumption like a hawk!

Will let you know how we get on....plus would like feedback from other users too!

My wife and I are absolute energy misers. I just checked the previous 7 days, 2 button twice on NIE pad, £3.20. Can anyone beat that? We were here all week but I was away 2 days so no PC those days. No children here now, washing machine, fridge freezer, we didn't use the dish washer or tumble dryer. TV in Kitchen and bedroom. PC laptop with external monitor plugged in and use was about 25 to 30 hours in the week. Also have set up a dedicated power strip for all phone chargers etc, this is switched on at night, after 1 am, and off in the morning by time clock along with the washing machine.
