Installing a combi gas boiler system? Costs?

Hi, we've jsut moved into a house with a separate water heater and central heating system. Not sure what it's called. We would like to put in a combination boiler. I have seem that they are about £800 to buy but am wondering about installation costs with the need to remove the old system? The house is a 3 bed 1920 terrace, so not huge, with 3 beds, living room, lounge, kitchen and downstairs bathroom.
Thanks

I think a lot depends on where you are. We have a similar house and moved in in Feb. We had gas here but no heating - just two gas fires - and an immersion heater. We had a combi boiler put in and nine radiators. The regulator (?) had to be changed because it wasn't suitable for central heating (I'm a bit vague about that bit) and it all came to just over £4000.
I'm not sure what you mean by separate water heater - do you mean that your gas boiler doesn't heat your water? Or that you have a boiler that heats water stored in a tank? Or ...? What 'old system' would need removing? The hot water tank and boiler?0 -
to be honest, I don't really know. There is a central heating system in place that is thermostatically controlled. There is a Potterton soemthing in the bathroom which is gas-fired and comes on when we turn on the hot tap! I know that the system isn't a combi system. We wouldn't need any radiators put in, just a combi boiler. We've only had the house a few days and are currently living in rental accommodation whilst we get it sorted!2013 wins: March - book,0

Sounds like a combi boiler to me! So the CH is gas ...?0

CH is gas, but upstairs there is a large black water tank that looks like a big toilet cistern......
It might be combi.......I think I will need to pop round and google whatever the boiler is!2013 wins: March - book,0 -

Have you tried applying for a grant towards the cost... try here, i did and got a combi boiler with installation totally free. You do have to qualify by receiving certain benefits... (child tax credits etc ).
Maybe worth a try.

Why are you so desperate to get a new boiler when you don't know about the old one yet? Is there a problem with it?0

the old boilers with water tanks in the loft are outdated & much less efficient than combi-boilers. not to mention having to wait for hot water to heat for about an hour before wanting a bath!Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044! Oh right! We had a boiler and tank in loft set up in last house. Never waitied more than half an hour for enough water for a bath and two x 45 mins a day on timer provided enough for everyday use.0 -
