Thanks very much for your comprehensive reply, mclaren.

The details on the website said nothing about a thermostat, so I wasn't sure if the temperature was regulated properly. Some of the expensive ones have adjustable thermostats.

I'm not sure "it comes apart into six pieces" is quite the same as "it's easy to clean" :D Does it have a rotating "auger" to lift the chocolate up to the top, or does it have a pump buried in the base? I could imagine a pump would be very difficult to clean.

It's difficult to know if all the warnings about the cheap devices on the eBay listings for more expensive devices have some substance to them or are just FUD. Some of my questions were based on what I read in the listings.
Hiya it has a spiral inside a cylinder. it turns and the chocolate goes up. The thermostat does not have a control on it, as it is set at 1 setting, but i have one, and i love it.

As for cleaning, ive cleaned mine, and it took me 2 mins to do so :)

Got one today from Currys in Skegness, it was theonly one I could find in the whole of Lincolnshire, I am from Grimsby so Ihope the 40 mile drive was worth it for her xmas pressy.

Anyway, all the shop assistants said they are after one and Grimsby store said they wont be getting any more in.

well i buy my chocolate from a company called vantagehouse.com. 823-554 is the code for 10kg bag however they start at 2.5kg bags. For belgium, it works out at 92p per 200g, bearing in mind that 200g of Dairy Milk costs £1.29 and that 92p includes the P&P :) they also sell mashmallows at £2.95 per kg :)

    Hope this helps :)

So you havent noticed chocolate is full of vegetable fat anyway then!!

You can also add something called "MYCRYO" instead which is a powderd form of cocoa butter or if you use a very high quality dark chocolate you wont need the oil.

cheap chocoloate might use it but its a sickening thought in any case i.e. the idea of adding extra veg oil to chocolate

just been to the cadburys shop in mcarthur glen, cardiff.

bought some flake bits for the fountain - they contain extra vegetable oil according to the burb, sounds ideal!, i forget if they were 200 or 250 g bags, only £2 a piece tho
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
