  • Hi there, I went to Jersey for my 40th and it was amazing.
Get good flight deals on www.skyscanner.net There are flights avail in november for around £80 each.
There are lots of luxury hotels with spas .The bohemia restaurant in the "club hotel and spa" is a michelin star treat and well worth it for that special occassion.Spa facilities are also great there.
Jersey has lots of jewellery and designer shops too so you can go for a wander and enjoy a shop and lots of nice restaurants at the waterfront.
    www.theclubjersey.com .
Just a thought. Enjoy whatever you end up doing xxx

  • I would like to thank both the OP and hamsterholly for 'introducing' me to Griffon Forest.

I read this thread yesterday as i'm always on the look out for romantic breaks with the fella, then promptly looked up it's website and called them up right away to make a booking!
After speaking to them, we actually went and drove down there! (we're in Manchester so it was only about 45 mins away) to go check it out, pick our lodge and then, book direct.

We chose a Poachers Premier lodge (I'll admit i'm a tad snobby  :p ) , Mon-Fri and we were also awarded a 10% discount off the price too!

Me and my fiance are greatly looking forward to going in a few weeks time. Will be pure romantic bliss! ;)

So again, just wanted to thank you both for opening my eyes to this place :T

    Cheers guys

There are more than you would believe ;)

    In the Chester area...

    Closer to home you have...

    http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/kilheycourt/

    http://www.barcelo-hotels.co.uk/hotels/northern-england/barcelo-blackpool-imperial-hotel/

But one of my personal favourites which isn't too much of a drive for you is...

    http://www.ramadajarvis.co.uk/hotels/leedsparkway.aspx

It doesn't look much from the website but the spa facilites are lovely with a large pool and jacuzzi in the middle plus all the therapies you could wish for, and the hotel often do theme weekends ike German Beer festival, etc. The place is vast, recently refurbished but with gorgeous features such as huge inglenook fireplace in the main bar (I stayed there in November). See if you can get good deal on the exec rooms as they are well worth it. As you can tell, this hotel was a real surprise to me when I first stayed there.

I think it depends what you are looking for. Of the above list only a couple would satisfy my criteria. I discount modern chain hotels straight off the bat,so out go Kilhey Court(nice though it is for lunch, dinner etc),The Feathers,Ramada, and De Vere. I wouldnt stay in Blackpool at any price! so out goes the Imperial. I just think these hotels are more suited to business travel rather than a romantic weekend away.

I had lunch just before Xmas at the Chester Grosvenor and it was wonderful, the location if you like shopping, city centre sightseeing is unbeatable. But, for me, a country house hotel.and semi rural is part of the criteria I need to satisfy.

    Horses for courses I guess.
