I would have thought it was brought in because of an abuse of privileges, rather than for the sake of it..0

Sounds like the type of scheme a local authority would bring in.
It totally undermines employee trust and confidence and gets people's backs up.
Not sure how to get round it but I have to agree with other posters on it being a ridiculous idea and a great way to destroy any staff morale.
sounds more like RM,new tracking systems are fitted and some online now
RM ones are supposedly in touch with base all the time logging data plus any other data such as parcel deliveries0 -

your probly right,,but at the end of the day the same amount work will be done as the engineeres will just take there time & stretch the jobs out,,just means the engineers (about 100 or so) will get home later & the company will have to shed out few £ on the equipment & for monitoring0 -

Nobody's said what the purpose of the tracking is, or even if it's on a person or a vehicle, so how do you know it's ridiculous?
It sounds more like a private company scheme...AFAIK local authorities haven't yet got down the road of plotting positioning of staff matched to times, but they use PDA's to timestamp work recording which no taxpayer should have a problem with.
They do however plot positioning of their own vehicles, as much for protection and value for money, as well as telling if the vehicles are parking outside a particular pub every day when they should be on the move.
A good one is the tracking of local authority vehicles, like bin lorries. Cuts fuel consumption, works out more efficient routes, can tell when the traffic's busiest and which routes to alter....also it helps defend the taxpayer when members of the public try to blame council vehicles for driving across verges, rutting lawns or knocking off wing mirrors in order to get a free payout.0 -
I have a smartphone too, I might be tracked, I turn it off, no real problem I work on London Underground, so track me!!0

the company my hub works for has tracking on all the engineers vans and afaik its so its easier on planning which engineers go to which jobs by who is nearest by tracking them rather than ringing everyone for a status report before being able to allocate the job - time being money and all that .......:j MFi3 wannabee :j
mortgage owing 04.07 £36,000

the pda will act as a phone & tracking device,,it wont be used to see whos nearest to the job,,it basically will be used to see whos skiving...for example people like me (will hold my hand up) & about 90% of the engineers who leave home bout 9am & get home bout 2pm,,but before i get shot down the company get paid set amount wheather we get called or not (fully comprehensive contract),,& in nut shell the less calls we get the more money the company save... so before i get shouted at,,was not doing the job for the money as could earn lot more else where,,but freedome is priceless...
anyway the point of the Q is not why,,,but how to avoid being tracked!0 -

If you have (all) been bending the truth about what time you finish (you mentioned finishibng at 2pm instead of-what? 5pm ?)
So each engineer is claiming pay for 3 hours a day so over a five day week that's 15 hours -over a year -assuming 4 weeks holiday a year that's 720 hours-so let's say 720 hours multiplied by £8 per hour (taking low rate for an engineer) which is £5760 per engineer per year..........so multiply that by the number of engineers who do this..........assuming you are paid for 37 hours a week..........
Nah you've taken the mickey long enough it sounds-sorry but as someone who actually works the hours I am paid to be available-I have NO sympathy for you.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

But you're getting paid for work you're not doing so the company is losing out. At every company I've worked for, lying and fraudulently claiming hours you've not worked - in other words THEFT, is gross misconduct and grounds for immediate dismissal.
Be grateful you've still got a job.0
