no DivX doesn't play hd dvds as I had that on before I installed nero...which has now gone as that wouldn't either...I'll just go with windows media centre for now...had to do system restore as nero just didn't want to go...anyway gone now...thanks everyone for the help its been interesting...

Did you follow the instruction to ensure that Microsoft NET Framework 2 was installed?
Did you update to the latest driver for your graphics card?

You should have done all of this before removing Nero. In addition, Nero supplies a Clean Tool in order to remove all traces of the program, so a System Restore was unnecessary.

I'm sure that you understand that if you have access to the Blu-Ray/HD DVD Video Plug-in and then you cannot play HD DVD Video, the problem must lie elsewhere.
So uninstalling the said program will not help you to find the solution by the process of elimination.

thanks donnie ...but the nero was a bad copy or something as ...as soon as it had installed and loaded it went into system restart over and over and over again I think you know what I mean...anyway I had no choice but to alt and F10 in the end and do a re-install of the whole system...
but thanks anyway...as the laptop is brand new and already has a problem with not picking up the other 120gb hard drive I think I might send it in for them to have a look at and see if they do anything with it...I still have my desktop so I can use that until it comes back...but thanks anyway...

It's good that your laptop is getting the once over, as it doesn't sound quite right.
