Can I claim then as I freeze milk and found the other day that one of the large 4 pint ones had a split in the handle and milk had gone over the drawer in the freezer and stuck a loaf of bread to the bottom of the drawer :rotfl:
Also it says in DIY shops etc about paint tins as well. If you lie them on the sides and they leak who is at fault. Well it is not the shops.
And I personally say the same about the milk. If it had been upright then it would not have leaked all over the place.
The best way to keep products up right is to use the big orange bags you get from sainsburys as that has a flat bottom or even use a cool bag as that will allow you pack the bags the way you want to.
Mind you I did get a leak from a milk bottle then as far as I am concerned that is my fault and no one elses and if it leaked in the car I would just clean it up and then learn never to do that again and make sure it is always up right.

madfrenchgirl - if it is a manufacturing fault with a bottle then the supermarket does have a responisbility.
In this case it is difficult to know whether that is the cause, or whether it became damaged after it left the store.
If we are to take your view, then, let's say I drive to the supermarket one Saturday afternoon. One of my tyres hits a pothole in the carpark that I didn't see. This then causes damage to my car.
According to you, my driving would be to blame.
I'd tell you where to go, too.
Tesco have a responsibility if it's a manufacturing issue, not if it tipped over in the car on the way home.
Sometimes people are entitled to some recompense from multi-billion pound profit making companies, believe it or not madfrenchgirl.0 -
I don't understand what the damage is? A bit of milk leaked onto the boot carpet.
wipe all the metal body work afected with a cloth. the carpet is hopefully easily removable (but even if like some it is held on with screw caps, easily undone. Possibly could go in a washing m/c but if not, a good soak with hot soapy water, and hang to dry. End of.
What is the loss incurred?0 -
I am sure that if this happened to me, I too would ask for compensation to cover the cost of the cleaning and a new bottle of milk. That is of course if there was something missing from the bottle that meant that it was not suitable for transportation.
If I had milk spilt all down my hallway carpet I would not be happy with giving it a quick clean with a sponge and some soapy water as sour milk smells awful! I would have the carpet cleaned by a company to make sure that all the milk was removed.
If the bottle was faulty then Tesocs should pay for cleaning. I do not understand those people that wouldn't bother complaining or think that it is silly to blame Tescos. If it is not the suppliers fault then who's is it? I am sure you cannot expect a customer to inspect every item the buy in a supermarket before they put it in the trolley? I look at the item and make sure it has no clear signs of fault but I wouldn't stand there and test the lids or take the tops off to check if there are seals in place!!! If the fault was not clear then Tescos are at fault and should pay up. After all they are the big company that wants to keep their customers, who wants to buy things from a shop knowing that if something goes wrong Tescos wont help you?0 -
what a lot of fuss! I would have just got on with cleaning up the mess and then would have forgotten it. Is it really worth getting het up about? The only thing that will get rid of the smell of milk is biological washing liquid as it attacks the bacteria (great vet tip).
The only reason I would have worried about this incident is that someone could have tampered with the milk if there was not a seal. Who's to say someone did not open the milk and take a swig and put it back...stranger things have happened!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0
