IvanOpinion wrote:Why do you think this is Tescos fault? Surely to goodness you check that the top is tight on everything that could spill before you put it in your trolley? Any milk I buy is only protected by a plastic clip that breaks when you open the top ... and I always check that it is in place. Come on, this is not tescos fault ... your wife did not check the top was tight, your wife did not set it upright in her car and ensured it could not topple ... stop trying to find someone else to blame ... it is just one of those trivial little things sent to try our patience.
Count yourself lucky that it was not a bottle of bleach.

There's no point crying over spilt milk.
If this was me I'd have cleaned it straight away, so what are the costs exactly? Apart from a new bottle of milk.
Compensation culture inherited from USA ! !!!!!!!
Maybe he could say he slipped on the spilt milk and got some whiplash injuries.0 -
Yes they should. The tesco milk does come with seals inside the lid, if this was missing the packaging was faulty and therefore the retailer liable.Sense is not common.0

How big was this carton of milk? Seems to have managed to spread a long way.
Personally I always check seals on liquids and ensure they are kept upright.
I honestly believe that Tesco will replace the milk, whether they go any further will I think depend on the manner in which they are approached. I have had a bag full of stuff coated in washing up liquid because the cap has flipped up during transport and it has leaked......no one's fault, s**t happens.0 -
I would make an appointment with the Store Manager immediately, and even be ready to show him the damage the milk has done.
I know for a fact that my local Sainsbury's store will, at the store managers discretion, reimburse the cost of sorting it out. I would have thought Tesco would have a similar method of dealing with this sort of thing.
The sooner you make an appointment the better in my opinion.0 -
I wouldnt be surprise if Tesco refuse to do anything, after all how can it be proved that it is Tescos fault?
If I buy cream, or coleslaw at a supermarket I make sure I have it upright in the boot with the shopping else I would expect it to leak - and I would go blaming the supermarketWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
OMG!!!
Anyone remember my thread about me slipping and almost falling on spilled milk in Asda. Well here it is! But at least I had the decendy not to make a fuss as nothing happened to me, i just asked them to clean it and got a voucher and was happy. In the cas eof the OP, well: tough luck!
No one got injured, and Tesco could argue that some people might have taken the plastic or the foil off to smell the milk or even drink it: believe me some malevolent people do.
I could not agree with you more on ths one WIG! Typically American attitude.
To the OP: next time, make sure milk or liquid bottles are in a tied plastic bag!
IMO, get over it, clean your car and put it behind you! It is not like you have any room for a claim there."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

I always squeeze milk bottles before I buy them, but that doesn't always stop them leaking in the fridge (I keep them in one of my veg boxes until I open them).
There is bound to be something about cleaning spilt milk (and getting rid of the smell) over on the Old Style board.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I noticed when I was in LIDL the other day they had a notice up stating that all bottles of washup liquid, milks etc should be kept upright as they would accept no responsibility for damage to goods etc if they leaked etc etc. I always make sure that any bottles I buy with not the greatest of lids etc I bag up and knot the top. I recall one time a bottle of washing up liquid had fallen sideways in a bag of shopping I got home. It was all over the contents of the bag etc, thankfully just all other cleaning products, sponges, gloves etc. I just thought, well I didn't bag it properly, and cleaned everything up. Make a point of buying pull up topped wash up liquid now, rather than the flip top ones.
If you give the carpets a good clean etc, you can always blast them with some Anti Bacterial Febreeze which should prevent any ripe cheese smells. It's £2.54 in a 500ml spray bottle in TESCO.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -

I thought of your thread as soon as I saw the title of this one.
We buy the plastic bottled milk from Tesco. We are always extremely careful about transporting it both in the trolley and in the car after one time when one leaked in the boot (not much leaked fortunately) which we took to be our fault for not taking enough care. The bottles can get damaged very easily. If we're shopping together, the one not driving always holds the milk bottle and egg cartons in the car on the way home. Otherwise they are kept upright (separately) in boxes which we have to wedge into place in the boot. To be fair, you'd have to take steps like that if the bottles were glass. I think people don't think of damage to plastic bottles as plastic items are generally assumed to be tough whereas plastic milk bottles are easy to puncture. I'm not commenting on the OP's situation here (as he says the problem was caused by a missing seal), just a general thought.0
