Apparently they have bought out Elenfanten and just basically removed them from the market - that's another competitor for them out of the way.
Shame as they made lovely shoes and I'm getting sick of the limited Clarks choice - Start Rite too narrow for my boys feet - most annoying!

I find clarks choice very poor. I went to buy some new school shoes for my son last week. They had a vast choice of one pair in his size. Take it or leave it!! Unfortunately I had to take it because there was nowhere else to go.0

In Glasgow ( parkhead forge ) there is a clarks factory shop which sells discontinued lines and cosmetic damage stock . There is at least 50 % off full retail and up to 75% off on some stock . There must be more of these in other areas of the country . This shop has been there for about 14 years , i used it for my childrens shoes throughout school and now take my neice to it . it also sells bags and they still have a full measuring service .0

Quackers wrote:Obviously, I'm biased  but do you really think the choice at Clarks is limited? I'm not having a go but am genuinely interested. The range has increased a lot over the past few years I think.
Is your local store quiet small? Unfortunately the smaller stores get sent really small packages to sell with limited width fittings too.
I think their range is quite good but not for the wider fittings. Both of my children have fairly wide feet (G and H) and although there can be lots of choice on the shop floor, the range available for them to try is usually down to about 2-3 pairs. I find the 'trendier' or more unusual styles don't come in the wider fittings so they usually end up with quite boring shoes.
I think the school styles available for girls in size 1 plus is limited. Can't speak for boys as my son is 2
. I also think their ranges should extend in the sizes, by this I mean their first shoes should come in larger sizes and middle age range should also come in larger sizes. My daughter is tall for her age and has bigger feet than average for her age. I've always found that the only styles that fit her are too old for her IYSWIM
.
Oh and the shop I use is the main one in Manchester city centre and is supposed to have the biggest range in my area. Hope this answers your question

DS1 was in desperate need of school shoes after the Easter Hols.We went to the franchise within Mothercare and as he has a wide foot (12 1/2 G)we were limited to two styles . Lord E decided onGood Friday that we go for a "drive", and we ended up in Bicester Village at the Clarks outlet. We got DS1 feet measured again (same-phew) and came away with a pair of school shoes at £22 . What happy bunnies we were.......0

Hi Quackers
Not sure where you are but there is a Clarks Outlet store at Biscester Village in Oxfordshire where the prices are permanently about 50% off.MFIT No. 810 -
Thanks for your reply Quackers.
I was last at the Manchester store about 2 months ago. I can't remember if it had been refurb-ed, I think it was probably in the process as the shop floor space was a lot smaller.
After having her feet measured there were only 3 choices of shoes which I thought was a bit poor and she ended up with the same ones as her last pair. (No girl likes to have the same pair of shoes twice
) I remember when I bought her first pair of shoes at 14 months and she measured 5 1/2 H. There was only 1 pair available so we bought them! She was wearing school type shoes when she was 2 as she didn't fit the toddler styles.
I do think the ranges have improved since then but surely there's a large enough demand for wider fittings to supply all ranges in them
. I just wish they'd do away with the school shoes with the huge chunky block heels, my daughter loves them but I can't bring myself to buy them, think they're awful! :smileyhea0 -
I have been shopping today for Clarks shoes for my daughters (one aged 4 1/2 and one aged 3). My 4 1/2 year old wanted sandals and I wanted her to have Doodles. Anyway, after trying on 7 pairs of Doodles, only one fitted and she didn't like it. Out of 4 pairs of Sandals only 1 fitted.
My 3 year old needed Nursery shoes and I also wanted her to have Doodles. Out of 5 pairs of shoes, only 1 fitted (and in a different widthto what she measured) and out of 6 pairs of Doodles, 1 fitted - interestingly the same pair which fitted my other daughter - but this one liked!
I think from a manufacturer point of view it must be difficult to make shoes to fit a variety of feet, especially Children, who are all different. As a mother, I find it so frustrating when I get asked which shoes I like/ the girls like and then find they never fit.
My thoughts anyway
