Renting in London or arround London

Hi all
My wife and I are planning to move to London or areas arround London. I am receiving 5000 USD disability grant every month is this will be enough money to get by while also raising a child.
We are looking at renting an apartment or a house for not more than 700 GBP a month. I know in London will be impossible but what about other family orientated areas.
Please help.

What do you consider to be 'around London', and what do you mean by 'family oriented' - do you need good state schools, for example, lots of open space, or low crime?
That's a tight budget - might get you 2 bedrooms in some areas, is that ok or do you need 3?Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -
Thanks beingjdc
Around London I meant about 40 minutes away from London and 2 bedrooms will do. please excuse my spelling0 -
Im looking for low crime area, good state school will do in a later stage not now beacause my child is 18 months.0

I see. You won't get an area very near london which is both that cheap and low crime. If you're prepared to be around 60 minutes from the centre by train it's certainly realistic - Milton Keynes and Northampton will get you most for your money, maybe Crawley, Woking... Nowhere urban could be called 'low-crime' these days I don't think, but you can shop around in those places, maybe find a cul-de-sac...Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0

I did a search on www.rightmove.co.uk They have a rentals section, and you can put in your criteria, eg £700 per month max rent, at least 2 bedrooms. It came back with over 1000 properties available within a 40 mile radius of London. So, your budget may be ok, depending on what you would be satisfied with.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Just as an example, this one looks nice:

I've always had a soft spot for Welwyn Garden City. Not the trendiest location, though. :-)No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
If you are Bulgarian, have you checked the Immigration Rules?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

That one's a bit of a bargain. A £200k flat that you can rent for £8k a year.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Bulgaria joined the EEC last year. I think there is no problem about Bulgarians living in the UK. Working is another issue. The OP says disability pension. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I do immigration law, I do know that Bulgaria joined (-:
But it's not quite as simple as that. Yes, Bulgarians can come and live here. But they have to show that they can support themselves without recourse to public funds, and also need permission to work - which the OP's wife might be intending to do....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
