I went to my appointment today. It took about half an hour. 25 min of that was opening the pointless savings account that I'm never going to use and paying a £1 into it. A lot of faff, but hopefully it will be worth jumping through their hoops in the end.
Same here I've opened my first reserve today and didn't asked any deposit. Although on my application it did say minimum deposit of £1.00 but the CSA said it's just for application purposes but don't really need to put any.0 -
Seeing as RBS shares were one of the worst hit by the big drop in share prices this morning (down 25% at one point) is Natwest a wise place to be moving one's money?
It really bothers me when I see comments like this.
Now am I not right in thinking that just this week the goverment increased the amount of savings that are safe if a bank was to go under to £50,000?
And because of when ISA's were first introduced and the fact you can only add a certain amount to them each year it is not possible for anyone to have more than £50,000 in a cash ISA so surely there is no risk???
Also as Natwest add interest monthly if they were to go under surely the very worst that would happen is you would loose at most 1 months interest?
Or am I missing something???0 -
I just think (as someone who has a chunk of my life savings in Icesave that I might not see for 6 months or so) that perhaps in these times, rate is not everything.
I'd rather get a slightly lower rate but know that I can get at my money when I want, call me old fashioned.
Natwest/RBS are suffering worse that some at the moment. I'm not saying take your money and run but it seems an odd provider to pick if you aren't in with them already.
Just my thoughts, no offence intended.Temrael

No offence taken
I must admit I didn't think about how long it might take to get your savings back if a bank goes under. Also when I wrote my last post I wasn't aware of what had happened with ICESAVE over the last couple of days.
Are there any time scales in place for when you'd get your money back if a bank goes bust?0 -

When did you submit your transfer paperwork? Did you hand it in at a banch? Were you already a Natwest customer?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm keen to get an idea how quickly Natwest are getting the transfer requests off to the other banks
Thanks0 -

The FSCS say that they aim to settle all claims in 6 months, but that is probably their domestic target. In the case of Icesave where they are having to liase with foreign banks and governments it will complicate matters further and thus extend timescales.
It's all very early days though and up in the air though so nobody really knows anything yet. :rolleyes:Temrael

After all my troubles, I went back in later on Thurs Sept 25th and got mine all sorted out. All my account info has come through the post now, can now log on and actually see my ISA account (nothing in it yet though).
Today (Tues Oct 7th) Skipton Building Society have wrote to me and asked for my account book back, so they can process the transfer. So that's just taken 7 working days.0 -

At a branch when I opened the account on 22nd September. I wasn't already a Natwest customer.
Having a bit of trouble with BMW (aka Newcastle BS) who have stuffed up my other ISA - nothing to do with Natwest. There's a transfer on that to NW pending - might be a bit more complex.0 -
Natwest have been a nightmare for me. I rang again today and they can't find any paperwork for my transfer. They promised to call back by close of play today and guess what? No call :mad:0
