tawnyowls wrote:Blimey! Definitely going to pick one (or 2!) up from there, then. Our goose last year cost 40 quid. Mind you, it was organic, it was absolutely delicious and did last us for 3 days.
The ones in Lidls are FreeRange Goose.....bargain I'd say!!

You can't farm geese intensively, they won't stand for it apparently. so, any goose is a happy goose0

I've posted on another thread about Crosbie's in Charterhouse street in London (Smithfield meat market).. last Christmas they were selling three types of goose at different prices, all very good value - some were imported from Eastern Europe but still very good. I do remember their best goose was half the price of Goodmans geese - sorry I don't remember the other prices.
My problem this year is that my kitchen was ripped out just after Easter and (it's a long story) won't be finished in time for Christmas. So I'm still cooking on a Baby Belling. There's a lot you can do with a Baby Belling (believe me , I should know) but no way does it stretch to goose or turkey. So it looks like a turkey breast joint for us this year
Whne my kitchen is done I'm going to take a week off work and just cooooookIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
what about a duck in your baby belling? that should fit in and be a bit different from turkey breast! plus you get all that yummy fat to roast the spuds in!!! lidl seem to have some good offers and i got a free range one half price from sainsburys the other day. janeMember 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

maow425 wrote:Cut the carrots in decent size chunks (I usually cut, then turn the carrot a bit, then cut again, then turn, then cut etc - that way they look impressive as well). Put in saucepan with water just covering the carrots, and add about 50 g unsalted butter, 2 tbsp golden caster sugar (i've used different kinds of golden & brown sugars and they all come out scrummy) and 1-2 tsp of dill. Cook until most of the liquid is gone and it sounds like the carrots are frying instead of boiling. Test with a skewer and if they need a bit longer, just add a bit more water.
Hope it helps!
OMG maow!!!!
I attempted this on Sunday, but I only remembered that 'just cover with water and then.......' bit. I knew it was something sweet
Sooooo - I just chucked in some honey. Well i have never seen carrots disappear off my kitchen table so fast in my LIFE! :T :T :T
I am now under orders from both DSs to make this next week and double the amount of carrots!!
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you !!!:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -

Tell me about it, my kitchen is still a work in progress, but 2 months of feeding a family of 4 with a combi oven, a rice cooker and a George Foreman grill is driving me nuts!
Re Goose, my Lidls (Bletchley) had crowns of Goose, rather than the whole bird - about the same size as a medium chicken.....Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
