Red cabbage is great in the slow cooker. Put the cabbage in with a sliced onion, some chopped apple, a tablespoon of cider vinegar, a teaspoon of sugar, two tablespoons of water and a good knob of butter. Leave it for 6-8 hours and it will be lovely.

  • Great that's Christmas Dinner taken care of. I've got a Lidl's goose in the freezer, roast pots no problem (tho never done them with goose fat), and red cabbage in the slow cooker. Now just got to find some reasonably priced red cabbage - the price seems to soar at Christmas. Maybe I should cook it now and freeze it.
  • Thank you all for your advice.
How long do you think red cabbage would keep in my shed? Lidl have got a half price fruit & veg promotion on at the moment.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D
  • In Scotland the Lidl veg promotion finished 31.10.06. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen red cabbage in Lidl. Waitrose had a lovely ready-made one on taste last week but I resisted as I knew that someone on this forum would come up with a fab recipe. Thanks to you all.

I usually get my red cabbage from Tesco, if that's any help... Usually not that pricey either.

If no geese left - the ducks for £4.99 aren't bad - we're having yesterdays leftovers tonight!
