  • My OH doesn't really need anything so I think I'll get him a hot air balloon trip. I fancy it as well so will tell him not to buy me anything (except something little from DD) and I'll buy a couple of tickets for us both to go up. That way it'll be a surprise for him and he doesn't have to shop for something for me.

    Ebay is my friend.

I was devastated when the vintage wooden leg I wanted to buy him went beyond my budget - it didn't occur to me that anyone else would want it but there was a bidding frenzy!

I also lost out on a smallpox vaccine tube dated to his birthday, only in 1939.

    Ebay is my friend too!!!

Can I ask what you search for? lol

I would be interested in something for OH's date of birth that is quite daft like a vaccine tube or wooden leg ... infact the wooden leg is great for his stocking!

  • Oh keeps mentioning he wants a motorbike so thought this would be a good route for me to go down. its a little boring as he can't really open much on the day but he will love it.

We gave my brother some years back money towards new skies. I decided I wanted something to wrap so bought a playmobil skier and put the money inside the box. Perhaps you could do something along those lines.

Those times I was trawling through vintage, and then I searched his birthday.

Antiques > Medical can throw up some interesting stuff too.

    Great, thanks everyone for sharing.
I went to Matalan today and they had realy cute black pyjamas with white spots. They were long trousers with little lace on the bottom and thin strap top with lace on as well. I got quite caught by the look as they were very cute, but they also have sticker on "touch me" so I did and they are so soft!
So, I bought the set for my best friend, she will love it! They had different colours as well, but I liked the black/white combination the most. Thinking if I can get them for someone else as well.

Any - I noticed you said your husband enjoys cycling does he have an IPOD (or is this too dangerous when cycling). I bought my husbands straight from the Apple online store and they offer free engraving on the back - he really liked that because the childrens names are on it. Or how about a personalised pop art print - don't know if this is your taste though. Personally I love them. Or how about a caricature from www.drawme.co.uk. I'm about to order one of these for my cousin who is getting married in Gretna next month.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately he doesn't listen to music - not even in the car - he only listens to radio as apparently that keeps him awake (radio 2 for that matter:eek: ). He has few VERY carefuly picked CDs in his car that he listens to when there is noone he likes on the radio. But he mentions a band he likes about once a year, sometimes even less often! He is strange in his own way;)
He has a company car and spends most of his time on the phone in his car and he keeps using bluetooth earpiece. My lads at work have really good radio in built hands-free, which I wanted to have installed for him as well. But he is due to get new car in the spring so it's bad timing:mad: He was supposed to get one in October, but they moved the date.

My OH has asked for some decent knives! He is also a bit of a car cleaner & I will get him some bits to clean the car with. He is into motorbikes & will get something Ducati related. Usually a couple of DVD's etc. I usually find some great bits that are "him"

Hope you get just the right thing.

  • My hubby says he doesn't want 'things' - he wants the time to enjoy the things he's already got. This does NOT make him easy to buy for! I learnt to knit last November (and just about managed him a scarf in time for Christmas) and he's always said he wants knitted socks and a knitted blanket - I've done the blanket as an early Christmas present and I;'m knitting socks at the moment. He'll also be getting an X-Box 360 game (our evenings are generally - I knit, he plays X-Box) called Fallout 3 that he's been waiting for and wanting since...ooh, years, it seems, so I'm excited to get that for him as I know he'll love it. I'm pretty much stuck on other stuff...but we're building a shed at the moment in our allotment so maybe a tin mug and a flask, and allotmenty type bits...

Other family men are all getting knitted hats or scarves - oh and an uncle is getting some socks too. My boy is 4 and just started school so he'll get some stationery and books about learning to read and write - as well as some transformers and dr who toys I expect.

My mum got a greenhouse for her birthday and I'm knitting her a bag from jute twine which I'll put some secateurs and some gardening gloves in. My sister loves Dr Who and will be getting a pair of the fingerless gloves that Rose wears on Bad Wolf bay :) (I'm terribly jealous though 'cause I was gonna knit them for myself!). My MIL is getting a scarf, as is an auntie, a great-aunt, and a cousin. FIL and MILs boyfriend are both getting hats. SIL is getting a yarn bag (she knits too!) and her bf is getting some fuzzy dice for his racecar - knitted of course. Sheesh, I have a lot of knitting to do! Why am I on here!?! :rotfl:

I've just thought, clairefun (jealous of all your knitting, by the way!) ... if you are building a shed on your allotment, maybe one of those one-burner butane gas camping stoves would be an idea for a present for your hubby?

I'm sure I've seen them reduced in camping stores such as Millets etc recently, and I think they might only be around £10 now. You could get a little camping kettle, mugs, tea, biscuits & a small cheap radio and make it into an allotment hamper :)
