Ryan Air - Can they do this?

Now, i use ryan air a lot and take the problems and the poor service as part of the package when i can get to the European destinations so cheaply but this seems to me to be unethical and down right greedy.
10 of us booked, not all together on the same booking, flights to Reus from "Stansted" and back over a long w/e later in the month. Booked early and got a bargain.
A month after we booked our Monday evening return flight was cancelled and scrubbed from the list of available flights so we where moved to Monday AM... loosing a days holiday... but as said its a dirt cheap flight so we swallowed that... then yesterday 3 of the 10 of us have been moved again to the TUESDAY morning!!!
My issue is that Ryan air have obviously got lots of room on the Tuesday flight as they are going cheap at £9 + tax etc. but they are still advertising seats on the Monday for £180 after we have been moved off the plane!! So it would obviously seem full??!! It seems if someone will pay £180 Mr O'Leary is happy to chuck the lower paying passengers off!!
Further to this the original Monday flight is back on the available list... so why not move us back to that one???
My main problem is the profiteering by selling seat in a gazumping fashion and moving the lower paying passengers off the flight... Is that legal? It does not seem ethical but thats nothing new with Ryan air as we know.
To discuss the issue they charge a daft amount so if anyone has a normal rate phone number i would be grateful.
Sorry to write at length but facts needed to be there

Yeh, He is greedy, And a fellow colleague once met him, He said all 'MOL' Michael O'Leary does is shout n ball 'F*** this n that. LOL
He shouts at everyone, Some do give it back.
Yes they are cheap, But any excuse and they will charge you.
The other airlines ar not as bad thou.Thomson 757 Man0 -
That's certainly a very worrying practise. Perhaps you could post the dates concerned here and somebody could look into it for you.
I've heard of airlines cancelling flights and moving passengers to alternatives. But that doesn't seem to be the case here.
I've heard of airlines overbooking, in the hope of passengers not turning up. But that doesn't really seem to be the case here either.
It seems as if they are kicking you off the flight and reselling your seat. I have to say I'm flabberghasted. It's so absurd that the EU regs don't even cover it (you haven't been 'denied boarding' because you haven't checked in yet, but your flight hasn't been cancelled either).
Perhaps it's one for the Sunday papers to sort out?
Get some screen shots of current prices NOW for all the dates concerned (and try to make sure your computer's clock is visible).0 -
I agree, we need more information to clarify exactly what has happened.
Have you called them? Know it is a pain and the call centre staff aren't great (though some are better than others!), but it could be a simple mistake ... or not?!! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Am I missing something here?
According to their website at the moment, Ryanair aren't flying from Shannon to Barcelona (Reus). They do go to Barcelona (Girona) from Shannon.0 -
yes please clarify beefster your trip because shannon- reus dosent exist according to ryanair.
is this a real ryanair ripped me off post!!... the real mcoy, no typos, no fairy tales, nothing to do with not understanding the terms and conditions.
this could be it folks...the long wait is over, months of moans and groans about ryanair which amount to well nothing
i agree this could be a worrying practice infact downright bad, please post as much detail beefster as you can0 -
Could it be due to the postponement of its new aircraft destined for Reus due to Boeing strike.
Reus was going to be a base but wont opperate fully till November now.

I booked a return flight from Stansed to Reus in May. We were booked on the Monday evening flight from Reus which departs at 22.25. We have used this flight several times and suits a weekend away.
We were informed of change of schedule in July. We were now returning on Flight 2102 departing Reus at 10.35. This appeared to be an additional morning flight. I did wonder why Ryaniar would have two flights from Reus to Stansted departing within 90 minutes but given the choice the later one suited us.
Today I've received another change of schedule, We are now coming back on the 9.45 flight.
We have also booked flights for November and December returning on the 10.35 flight so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.0 -
