I've just used the Coventry City Council test centre at Whitley Depot (259 London Rd, Coventry, CV3 4AR) and they were good. £35 with a free retest (car failed first time on emissions, after some diesel cleaning additive and giving the engine a good thrashing it passed with flying colours). They weren't quick, but there was a waiting room where I could sit and get some work done, and eavesdrop on the taxi drivers who were coming in to get their licences :-)0

I've just returned from my MOT after following the advice from money saving. The garage is in Birmingham City centre, not far from Birminghm FC. I managed to get a booking within 24 hours and after I dropped it off it was ready again within the hour.
Just like the forum recommended, they "SUGGESTED" I change my tyres but did not fail me on it, whereas I would think if i took it to a high street garage would of failed me and charged me for new tyres!! Go Council, it will save you time and money!!

Anybody any experience of honest Wolverhampton MOT centres? Nationwide Autocentre is so tempting with 1/2 price deal but having read reviews on here will not be saving half test fee only to shell out fortune on unnecessary repairs as that seems to be the general consensus on here. TIA.MARRIED MR E - 22nd Dec 2010 - technically now sazzye!:j
AIMS FOR 2012: LOSE WEIGHT/GET FIT! PREPARE FOR BABY-TRYING! OVERPAY MORTGAGE BEFORE MOVING HOUSE, DO UP HOUSE TO MOVE, SAVE SAVE SAVE - SOLICITORS FEES, STAMP DUTY ETC ETC. :eek:HELP HELP HELP!:eek:0 -
HI, I've just tried the telephone number stated for the walsall west midlands council run mot centre only to be told I had rung the wrong number. The correct number is 01922 653753 and not 01922 653716 as stated in the list.

You may wish to try Den Caney Coaches based in Bartley Green, south west birmingham. They do not offer repair service and can accomodate cars, minibuses and motor homes.

Hi, I need an MOT in the Stoke area - anyone used the Northwood Council Mot test centre/ If not can anyone recommend a trustworthy garage / centre to go to??
Thanks in advance,0 -
Went to the Birmingham test centre the other day. Cost £54 which is the maximum but i reckon it was worth it. Took about an hour but there's a cafe round the corner so not too bad. The car failed on a couple of things so they explained to me exactly what the problem was - it was then easy to phone around and get the best price for the repair work. Managed to book a free retest within 24h of getting the work done and the retest only took 15 mins.
My brakes only just passed in the original test so they advised me to get them changed soon, whereas I think most garages would have had no qualms in failing the car on that and charging me pretty much whatever they wanted. So i think going to the council test centre is the best bet if your car is like mine (8 yrs old, 70,000-odd miles and not in great condition) and has a fairly decent chance of failing on one or more things.:)0
