Cant really comment on HappyFeet's post but the fact its a 1 of post and have never logged back in again doesn't say much.

As for me well I took mine back again this year and it passed again with flying colours and no advisories.

A quid cheaper then last year to happy days!
  • I always take my car to Redfern Travel MOT centre at Mansfield Woodhouse they charged £28.50 last time and for that I got a cup of tea, biscuits and to watch sky in the waiting room plus an MOT of course.
One small prob they only do MOTs so if your car needs anything doing you have to take it somewhere else. They are open longer then most other garages from about 7 in the morning until about 9 at night. Hope that helps someone
  • Having read the various posts on this site I decided to take our 1996 Golf diesel to Mr Clutch Derby for MOT. instead of our normal garage. I had checked the car myself before the MOT but was worried about the emmissions because it hadn't been used for over a year!

The MOT cost 21 pounds and I paid an additional 12 for diesel treatment to get it through the emissions, so 33 pounds in total. There were a couple of advisory details which I was mostly aware of but it passed. I was pleased I had visited this site and will take my other car there next time.
  • The government test all MOT stations and testers on a regular basis ensuring they all test to the exact standard. I’ve been an independent Mot tester for more years than I want to think about! I have a base of customers who come back year after year because they trust me! I resent the implication that the only way you can get a fair MOT is by going to a council run setup! Think on about the people who MOT cars but do not repair them –how do they keep up with the ever changing technology of the modern car? You couldn’t fathom the modern electric handbrake without working on it! I think Martin :money:has got this all wrong!!! And shame on him!!! We do not decide if a car passes or not it's all down to the rule book!!!

East and West Lindsey in Lincs don't have test centres.
Lincoln City have one at Stamp End and the number is 01522 533488

Hiya, just wondered whether you'd been to this place before so you could recommend/review them?
If not, could you recommend a decent place in Lincoln for an M.O.T, as mine ran out last week.
(A female friendly place would be ace, if you knew of one?!)

    Thank you in advance :)
  • Avoid RINKWAY AUTOCENTRE 153 NORMANTON ROAD IN DERBY.
    THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.
I just took my car there today after complete service. It was a Dodge Caliber 2006. Well the reason for refusal was:

First of all they refuse it becouse of the incorrect colour of front position lamps- yes the bulbs are blue but the light is white. Of course they did not believe me, but after I turned them on and showed it on the piece of paper they ad-mit they mistake and they said it will ignore it at retest.

But this was not the most ridiculus issue, the next one is even better:

"Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A' "---THAT WAS A SMELL CHRISTMAS TREE hanging of the middle of the top mirrow :rotfl:

This is even not the end of their idiotic ideas: in advisory items they put staff like:
tyre pressure light on dash( well if you remove your tyre pressure sensors it will be)

    this is my favourite:
parking brake light flashes when on- it was flashing when the engine was on just to remind driver to release it, but when you switch your engine off the light is still--- bloody idiots did not know that- no comments

handbrake lever travel close to stop- I have been put it on and off 100 times after that test and I did not find any problems with it

Now I now I will never ever again go there even with a small problem. It is just waste of money. They gives you cheap test for 25Ł and then fail you so you have to come back and do retest which is not free or even worse do some repairs in their garage.:(
  • I used to take my car for MOT at the Council Centre in Arnold for years. Now though, i take it to the Motmax co uk site in Carlton. Motmax only do mot's but unlike the council, they don't charge the full VOSA fee and always have special deals, they don't charge for retests either but best of all, if the car is under ten years old they don't charge you at all if your car fails, and the fee is only payable if/when the car passes. Their webiste has all thier current offers and they have branches throughout Notts & Lincs.:money:

I use Carlton Motmax too. I go onto their website, decide which available slot I want and book it online. They are really good - I've been for the last 3 years and have always passed first time.
  • If you need an MOT in Nottingham, there is only one place you should go for top class service, friendly staff and overall good value for money and thats Nottingham city council MOT station, Eastcroft center, London Road, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG2 3AH.

These guys are real mechanics who've been in the right side of the business for years.

    Hope this helps
  • Just to say, have just been to the Council MOT centre at London Road, Nottingham. Big thumbs up from me - I waited while my car was MOT'd, lovely staff, all of them, very friendly and professional. I will definitely be using them again next year
    see what i mean
