the prices here are 1p difference between ASDA and Shell , so i suppose it`s a no brainer !

Far be it from me to comment on much of the "advice" you've had on this subject!! (I'm too polite)

We run a diesel Jeep on Asda diesel when using it in the UK, and have done so for some time - it's fine! The other plus point with Asda fuel is if you use an Asda credit card you get another 2p/litre off (we don't use the card for anything else)

    I agree.

It is fine...but perhaps not as good an MPG or so kind to the engine as the 'more expensive' other stations. Essentially it's still diesel, essentially it will still work and there will be little noticable difference in performance etc, but my guess would be that your emmisions would be slightly higher on an MOT test and you'd get maybe 40-50 less miles out of a tank than the other brands.

It's like chosing Hi-tec trainers instead of Nike. Both will cover your feet and at least feel fairly comfortable, but the Nike's will probably last longer and will protect your feet and save you from some injuries that you may have gotten with the hi-tecs on.

Pays your money, takes your [strike]chance[/strike] choice.

Sorry for the loose analogy, it was the 1st thing I thought of!

Transits aren't the most 'refined' engines

what? this is pure and utter nonsense, a modern transits engine is as refined as any passenger vehicle.
it is no longer the old smokey slug of a van it used to be.

im speaking from experience, your just guessing.
i can get 40 mpg driving normally,50 if going easy but no less than 30 when driven hard. this is great fuel economy from a van its size fully loaded, that suggests refinement to me. oh and its more comfortable than a lot of cars to drive.

editing to say this is using tesco fuel mostly and notice no difference when using shell,in either performance or economy.

I think also the supermarkets are cheaper because there's no 'middleman/franchise' people like BP etc.

Goldspanners, what Transit is that? LWB, Hitop or common rail engine?

I get 36mpg below 60mph with my VW T4 high top LWB non CDI common rail. Always wondered how much a new van would do
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

As I always do, I'll 'promote' Shell fuels, as they ARE different to those sold in the other forecourts, due to the additives ordered by the tanker driver, when he loads his vehicle.

If you can find a Shell site, close to superstores, usually the price will be =, or better.

Use a Shell credit card & you're 3p/ltr (approx) better off & combine with theire own loyalty card, sometimes extra points, but certainly worth another penny or so off litre.

At these figures, even if you don't believe the fuel is 'better', you might as well use it, 'cos it's only going to POTENTIALLY save you money, in the long run, by keeping the engine running on the branded fuels.

But I don't see the point in just buying dearest, if it was a company car, guess it was a jokey coment, but I'd hope my staff would pracise Moneysaving for our business, just as they do for themselves!!

    Rumour has it........

If you stick to the same brand of diesel, you are ok. Its when you switch brands that the trouble starts as the additives in one brand are different to another and they don't 'mix' well and block filters and pump... :o

If you have to mix brands - make sure fuel filter is changed every service and you use some sort of fuel/diesel treatment as well. It will help.

With the exception of Sainsburys all supermarkets use additives. Sometimes the additive is briefly unavailable at the refinarys in which case I know Morrisons are not allowed to deliver more than 2 loads of fuel without additive to a store.

Shell do have additional additive in their premier products, otherwise the majority of products are the same, they all come out of the same refinarys.

I have also heard that Shell have better fuel from a few taxi drivers.
