@ Lyster.
I was so proud of my daughter finding a job within a week of leaving school.
I just wanted to remind people that these are human beings on the end of the phone, and they they all have their reasons for doing this unpleasant job - its surely better than eating up your taxes in claiming benefit.
It is quite up to you how you treat them, but being nasty in any one of a thousand creative ways may give you a little thrill of victory but it dosen't do any good, you understand? It just contributes to weight of human misery
If you were really concerned about adding to the weight of human misery, you would never have let her take the job. Honestly, you are so full of humbug putting the blame onto others.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I never have any trouble identifying tele-sales, scammers etc. and usually just say, 'no thanks' and hang up (I'm not in a position to judge someone just because they've got a crappy job); but sometimes if they're rude or disingenuous or rudely-persistent I might do this:
(for fun) "Hold the line for a second, please..." hold phone away from mouth "...get some photos of the spatter on that wall." Then, into the phone again, "Who is speaking, please?" They answer, I usually have to insist on a full name. Then the fun begins... "My name's Inspector Kerrigan of _____ CID. I have to inform you that you've phoned into a crime scene and you are required to stay on the line and answer my questions. If you don't answer my questions, or if you hang up, we will have to arrest you and bring you in for questioning. Do you understand?" They usually mumble something, and I continue, "How do you know (the name of the person they asked for)?"
"Can you account for your movements over the last 24 hours?"
"Have you ever been in trouble with the police?"
"When did you last see (the name of the person they asked for)?"
Eventually I move on to the name and address of the company they work for, the name of their boss, telephone numbers etc. Sometimes it's possible to get a startling amount of information with which to wreak havoc upon my tormentors.
I should point out, of course, that impersonating a police officer is a serious offence. I have never done this and do not recommend it other than as a thought experiment.

I continually asked them to stop, remove my number from their records, everything but the calls continued. Eventually I got the number for their head office and rang them about 10 times a day (usually getting the same receptionist) asking if they'd like to buy my bike. Each call got her more and more angry and abusive. Hours of fun. Eventually I asked her if I was being a nuisence to which she of course said yes. I explained that this is what her company does to me every day and if you want me to stop hassling them then stop hasseling me. Never had a call since.
This is an easy one just tell them: you rent the place, unemployed, listed building, and the best one belongs to the council, AND you are unemployed! :cool:The richard montgomery matter0 -
I always avoided sales calls from overseas. If only I could have followed my own advice. I got a call from a representative of a Company Claiming to be called Rockwell Securities. Long story short, I fell for what turned out to be a scam. The best I can figure they were in what this site calls a boiler room phone scam operation. I should have known better when I checked their website and there were instructions for wiring funds to a bank in New York, even though the "broker" I bought my shares from didn't sound anything like an American. I promise, I'm going back to my old ways and immediately hanging up on all cold callers. If only I could have followed that practice for the last 2 years of my life like I did for the first six decades. I don't want to go into details, but I was scammed out of a lot of money, at least for my income level. I feel like such a fool. Hopefully my story can at least save someone else the financial loss and personal embarassment. Just avoid all cold sales calls, particularly if they are from "Rockwell Securities". Also beware of their website rockwellsecurities.com, no matter what claims it may make. Really, really wish I could have followed this advice myself.0

Nice to find so many fellow sufferers!
I find just repeating the the word "Why?"to everything they ask tends to get rid of them but after the ninth call of the day I have been tempted to tell them that they are evil thieving b******* and suggest a place to put the phone!
Just remember this to those of you who are sympathetic to these callers, my friends 92 year old father has been conned out of thousands of pounds!!
I've now had my number removed from 192.com and I haven't had a call in weeks!!!!!!!0 -
I used to get plagued by these people, but since I've stopped answering the phone I hardly get any. They must all be phoning from the same place and have removed me from their database (well I can only hope!)0

I was posting a quick reply then the system crashed. If you answer the 'phone to a non-English call-centre, just say 'I do not understand, I no speak English'. or the person that has been asked for has either moved out last month or is so poor that s/he is next door scounging food. Two of the worst call centres are Yellow Pages and those giving a first magazine 'freebie' (the magazine 'freebie' which you never get, call upto ten times a day,) -at least Yellow Pages 'phone only five times a day - to get rid of them just say 'Who? You've got the wrong number.0

Had a phone call from a non-english call center the other day i am on TPS, I asked him twice what company he was calling from and still could not understand him. I told him to remove my details and he said ok and carried on trying to tell me about the company i ended up putting the phone down.Jan Wins: .0
