My point was that if people can think of all sorts of rude inventive things to say to the person of the other end, then why not just be polite, thank them for the call and hang up? It would make a massive difference to the person at the other end and it makes you a better human being.
Were you born with a bleeding heart and a regular need to beat a tamborine? Most of the rest of us are human rather than saints and when someone tries to poke us in the eye with a sharp stick we want to poke them back
For the sake of your husband's bank balance I only hope there are not too many television appeals for worthy third world causes this month:eek:God forbid, any of us on here will ever be in a situation where you have to take one of the worst jobs on the planet because of desperate need.
The thing is that these are definitely not the worst jobs on the planet as they only involve sitting at a computer in a call centre and in my experience the callers usually have the hides of several rhinocerouses and actually seem to be enjoying themselves if you indicate that their unwanted call is against the law, has wasted your time and has caused you stress and de-stress. Then despite being clearly told they are not welcome they don't hang up but merely return to their script. This is asking for it as far as I am concerned.
The worst jobs in the world are slaving away for hours in some ghastly industrial factory with poor safety standards and lots of unpleasant chemicals. This kind of work is comparatively easy and people do it because despite being wholly unethical it is rather excessively well paid, just like most forms of crime. Most of their fellow countrymen don't do it because even though the work they do is paid less they know it is worthwhile and appreciated and does not have crime and breaking the law as its own underlying central support.
I appreciate that you will not be able to help yourself from turning your cheek to others for the rest of your life but the rest of us are not like you and you will always be in a huge minority.0 -

On various evidence they probably seem to be linked with an outfit called www.phruit.co.uk who hang out at The Barn at Huddlestones Wharf near Newark but an 0844 number is listed on their website which I refuse to call. A number of 01636 671022 at precisely the same address for SLI Training Services reveals itself on Google but when called it clicks and clicks and goes through hunting as though it is searching around various mobiles or whatever. It went to unobtainable when I called. If you are called by this mob and are in Newark perhaps you might pop down to The Barn in working hours and see if there is anyone there who looks like they are linked with this scam.
I suppose I could report this to TPS against Phruit giving their address at The Barn and if they start to get letters about this offshore call centre operation that they seem to be commissioning it slightly put them off, although probably not as they are obviously hardened scammers of the worst possible kind.:mad::mad::mad:
I got a call yesterday about my imminent renewal of the House Insurance. It was the third company to 'phone me about my house insurance renewal.
He sounded a pleasant young man so I got him talking about this unwanted call, and he admitted that my number had been provided to his company by this "Phruit" mob. We had an amiable interaction and he said I would not be bothered again.
I had never heard of "Phruit" before yesterday.
Me thinks they deserve an official complaint - not least of all because it is not the house insurance it is the car insurance that is due for renewal.0 -
I got a call from an Indian call centre a while ago. When they started waffling on, I stopped them and said "Can i have your home phone number and ask what time you finish work?". "I'm sorry, I cannot give you that information", came the reply. "Oh go on", I said, "Cos I want to wait until you get home, start eating your main meal then I want to phone you up and pester you like you're doing to me".
They hung up.Mortgage Paid Off 5th October 2013

Unbelievable! Now we're getting these cold callers butting into this site! Whinging about the awful people they have to speak to. No you don't! Get a job where you don't have to lie, con vulnerable people out of money, sell unwanted goods, butt into other people's lives, upset many, and annoy the hell out of millions of people. You deserve all you get. "Be polite"? Where's the politeness in what you do? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
btw Does anyone ever buy anything from these companies as a result of a cold call? It can only be inadequate, old, or vulnerable people. How ethical is that? It should be illegal.0 -
I say nothing but 'please can you take my number off your list' - several times if necessary.
Calls are definitely dropping off from abroad (I'm with tps already).
Maybe some of these individuals are scammers, but most are just trying to pay the rent by any means possible. Who's to say I wouldn't try it if I was desparate for money? Thank God I'm the one in the position to be pestered!0 -
I was gettting 4 or 5 calls a day and despite registering with TPS etc they kept coming. Automated diallers, silent calls, overseas numbers, the works. I was polite but firm with them but when the same caller rings you day after day you would be forgiven for losing it. Rather than rant at them (as others have said, they may well be poor !!!!!!s just trying to earn a crust) I invested in a call blocker machine, which simply says I am not interested in surveys etc and asks the caller to press 5 before they are put through. No more nuisance calls. A very good investment.0

These calls are always scams and the people conducting them are working directly for master scammers, The people actually making the calls in the third world are just after an easy wage compared to working in a factory or in a field and are actually relatively educated in their country because they can manage to speak some english, work IT equipment and follow a marketing script. Please don't feel sorry for them all you bleeding heart liberal types as they only do this work not because it is the only work there is but because it is better paid compared to honest toil such as planting the fields or sweeping the streets. These are precisely the same kind of people who would be happy peddling drugs for a living.
I have now filed updated reports on the activities being commissioned by the no doubt very rich UK gentleman or lady behind www.phruit.co and these calls at http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/06468451863/2#p361914492253054812 and http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08844511237 I suggest anyone reading this thread also updates those two threads and logs a report against the callers at www.tpsonline.org.uk and www.consumerdirect.gov.uk giving the details of the registered head office of Phruit Ltd at BARNBY HOUSE, BARNBY GATE, NEWARK
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. UNITED KINGDOM

Oh I actually got the famous computer tech support people just now. Now I am ex directory and TPS as well.
It was Shaun from Mumbai, he said it was about my computer. I just laughed and said in a loud voice, "I don't have a computer!" He said thank you and hung up. Oh dear :rotfl: I was being to feel left out.:D0 -
I should have mentioned that I have also had two calls from the "there is something wrong with your computer and we want to provide a certified Windows technician to help you fix it" brigade in India in the last 10 days.
The first time I moved very quickly to asking why I was having trouble understanding him because he ran all his English words together, why he was calling me despite my TPS registration and why people like him in India couldn't do something more useful like making goods for us to buy in Britain or planting crops in their fields. I then hung up but he rang me back three times to hurl numerous amounts of abuse and swear words at me about the bl***y British and f*****g British. Eventually when I told him I would call the Police if he called again he desisted.
This week I had a politer chap with better English (did not run words together) from India ring me about the same scam of wanting to check settings on my computer. I tried to humour him to the point of finding out what commands he was actually going to get me to enter on the computer at a CMD prompt (perhaps to hijack my computer to steal all my passwwords and credit card details) prompt or whether he was just going to ask me to make payment to be sent the supposed miracle software to fix it but I eventually was sarcastic enough that he decided I was not interested and hung up before we got that far.
If anyone has actually been patient enough to discover the precise details of what this scam is or even fallen victim to it then please do post here to let the rest of us know.0 -

This is what my aforementioned IT-savvy friend said about it:
You receive a phone call from an Asian-sounding male who advises that he is from the "Windows Service Centre" and they have detected that your computer has a virus which is "causing problems to the internet community" and they need to fix it immediately.
You are persuaded (if you are fool enough) to stay on the phone and turn on your computer. Then after you've given your credit card details they tell you to call up their website and they will connect with your computer online and fix the problem for a fee, which they then pretend to do, and then tell you that everything is now fixed.
This is a complete scam and hoax. They have no knowledge about your computer or any virus. Just a means of collecting anything from £50-£200 from your credit card.
If you receive one of these calls, don't give them the time of day; and certainly don't give them credit card details or go online to the site they advise.0
