Spurred on by this thread I've tried to opt out to reduce the amonut of total junk coming through the door. Of course RM is a business and it can only reduce its losses by pouring unwanted junk through my letterbox. Sustainable and efficient business practices don't come into it! (await rant from Custardy at this point) It's clear that RM don't want to make it easy. Find the website, write to them or email them then they will post you a form which you then send back and then a few weeks will pass and it may or may not stop. I'll update in about July to say if it has worked.
It's all a part of the "we don't have to provide a decent service because for much of our business there is no realistic alternative"0 -

put the catalogue out for collection and forget about it,is it really such a hardship?
Why should they have to bother putting the catalogues out when they shouldn't have been delivered in the first place?
After all custardy, wasn't it you who stated the following?are you another who is more interested in whining than the trauma of opting out?
The poster in question had opted out of having Betterware (and other unwanted catalogues) delivered. This was done by having a notice on their door stating this.0 -

all i see is folks trying to make a living
i get catalogues all the time
I put them out for collection
it involves the trauma of placing it outside when im leaving the house for work
would people rather folks sat on the dole?0 -
i get catalogues all the time
But do you have a sign on or near your letterbox asking people not to leave these catalogues?
Yes, people might just want to earn a living, but is it really so wrong to expect these same people to have a bit of consideration for other peoples wishes and not to deliver unwanted items?0 -
My postman told me today that they are no longer given the lists of who doesn't want junk mail..... the local sorting office used to provide the postmen with lists of who opted out, but no longer give the lists out to the postmen.
I guess now someone needs to tell the Royal Mail Opt-out service, but I guess they will just deny that they no longer provide the postmen with the lists.0 -

If this is true then put a note on your letterbox stating Registered with MPS , No unadressed Mail .
If it continues ring local RM office and tell manager you will reciprocate by putting all your paper recycling in your local post box and do it .
Over an average size Town 3 tons of scrap paper to sort every week will make them think twice.

Save all your junk mail for a competition winner!!!
That's the game I play so as not to allow the thought of all this paper landing on my door mat get to me. It used to wind me up but now I really look forward to it as I have turned what was once an annoying situation into a game I love to play.
I save everything in a special tray in my workroom (working from home generates an awful lot more than the average amount). Everything goes in. The local takeaway menus, cash for clothes, Lidl flyers etc. you get the picture. Then, eventually you will get some junk mail from a company that makes the fatal mistake of including a pre-paid envelope for you to reply to their 'special offer'. Yes, you guessed it, they get the lot! Usually with a special notice from me with the following statement.
"Congratulations" in big type and phrases such as...
"You have won all my junk mail in my latest competition"
"Please feel free to use your prize as you think fit"
I have a 'winning prize' letter already printed but if I am feeling in the mood I will print a new one with additional content such as...
"If you would like to be entered into the next free competition please send me mail again but remember, your chances of winning are greatly increased if you include a pre-paid envelope"
"You have now won X times" (I keep a note just for my own amusement)
"Added Bonus!!! Should you be lucky enough to win again you will receive our added bonus - the contents of my hole punch. This bonus has been 'rolled over' for many months and is growing considerably and MUST BE WON SOON!!!!! - It could be You!"
Call me sad if you wish but it is an excellent stress reliever! I have even been known to shout "Yippee - we have a winner" when I get junk mail with a pre-paid reply envelope. Hey, if I am in the mood I will even fold them something too!0
