The ultimate incentive to get debt free, can I do it by New Years?

I've been wanting to sing christmas carols allll day. but I'm waiting till I get home so I can belt one out with my sister after work.
and I can finally put Cyndi Lauper - Early Christmas Morning back on my iPod (guilty pleasure right there.)
I'm excited about spending my first proper christmas with my boyfriend this year too, we'd only been going out for about 10 days before last christmas so it was only texts and a phone call on christmas day. I'm giddy!
Also - your DFWness is catching. OH has just paid £40 off of his credit card with amazon sales. I've been waiting for £50 from amazon for ages but they kept on regecting my bank account, the money went into his bank account today. He sent me an email asking how much of it I wanted, but I don't really need it, so I told him to take £10 for petrol (for making him go backwards and forwards yesterday) and pay the rest off of his credit card. DFW, in a sneaky way.0 -
afternoon! sounded like you had a nice weekend. between you and cinny you're making me miss having an OH
Any luck finding your missing bag of books?0 -
Yup found the missing bag, but not the single missing book. Still worried about that one.
Not to be a voice of negativiety Cinny, but careful with paying off your boyfriends debts. A lot of my debt was accumulated by trying to help out my ex, who I was with nearly 3 years and at the time I considered that money an investment in 'our' future. I lost out big time in that one, and I now will have absolutely no joint finances before marriage. I didn't take my card out on friday for dinner with my parents and mum asked me to buy champagne on the way home, OH had to pay for it but I have the £30 sat in my pocket to pay him back and I will feel so much more relaxed when I do! OH buys me little treats or meals, but I pay for all the petrol and more unseen things, so it kinda pans out. The way I see it is if you stick that money into a personal savings account you both win, as he learns to manage his money for himself and not relly on you (bad pattern to get into!) and you'll have a nice bit of savings to buy a car or your first house together and you'll both benefit from that. No one knows what the future holds, and financially you need to look out for yourself first. How would you feel if he spent on that card again on some random male rubbish (computer games, smokes, beer etc) when it was your money that you'd worked hard for that enabled that to happen? Everyone needs to dig out of their own hole otherwise they will never be able to manage their own finances. Sorry for the rant, but the last thing I want is to see you in the same situation I got myself into as love really can be blind when it comes to financial sense. xDebt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I get where you're coming from but this is the first (and last!) time I'll be giving him money straight out for his debts. He hasn't got into debt by wasting money, his CC was for car insurance, OD was all on car repairs and loan was for Uni (fat load of good that did him  ) We're on the same wave length when it comes to money, just i'm in a more fortunate position than him at the moment so i just like to help where I can, but it's normally in the form of petrol, dinner or the occasional tub of hairgel. I've known him since I was 13 so I basically know the complete ins and outs of his debts (scary for him) i know his mum bleeds him dry when it comes to board (lovely lady, bar that!)
Plus he knows full well if he re-spent the money (which I'm 100% certain he won't) I'd give him a right gobful (very lady like)
I've also told him out right I'm in no way prepared to take on his debts when we do move in together, in many many years.
I'll keep all your words in mind Dinah, I love him to bits and know he'd never betray my trust but I know how boys can turn slimey overnight!0 -
Aye I'm sure you do love him to bits Cinny, just none of us know what the future holds, I have now been in 2 3 year relationships and one 2 year, was madly in love each time, until I wasn't. And in two of those cases it was only me wheo decided I wanted out not him but the feeling that I had tied myself in made me stay longer than I should.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I'd love to think I'd grow up and grow old with OH. I know I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket, even more so at 17, but it's hard sometimes!
but no no no, I'd never pay off someone elses debts. It's up to himself to get himself out of it. Thankfully, now he has a better job, he has put he plan into motion and I'm just acting cheerleader.
I'm half tempted to tell him I'll move in with him once his debts are cleared (quite like your OH did with you, been thinking that for awhile now.) just to give him an extra push. I have the security of knowing it will take him a good few years though with his student loan. Unless he goes at it like you did, then I best have my bags packed for next tuesday
jokejoke, I know you'd be the first person I'd turn to if I got into debt!0 -
Lol! Yeah I don't think OH ever thought I would do it this fast. Then again neither did I really! Tonight OH and I are doing another 15 ebay listings and packaging up all the books that went today and the few we didnt manage last night, so about 8 in total, and then that's it, rest of the evening to do non-money making things. Got a mystery shop for a pub meal on wed night with RE, never done a job for them before though so could only take one pub even though there were about 5 available in my area. Nice date for OH and I. I'm already getting sad that he's going in a week, I'm just so much happier when he's here, I don't really care how bad my day is (and today wasn't great, fell asleep in a meeting!) because he is there at the end of it.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
