Birdie - your OH sounds exactly like mine! He is such a lads lad that romantic things dont even enter his head!
He very occasionally buys me flowers, but he has to be prompted to do so, eg valentines day, birthday or when hes really really annoyed me!
Oh well i still love him! lol

My OH used to be very outspoken about how he felt about me and how great he thought I was, but it made me feel uncomfortable as we hadn't been together long and I wasn't sure how I felt. I think after a few drinks I might have said something because now he just calls me things like 'simpleton', 'wheelie bin', 'Edna off Emmerdale'... I quite like it though, am I strange?

Yorkshire lads are pretty sweet! Well, if you think 'Ee by gum lass you look nice' is the language of love anyways.

OHs idea of romance seems the same as yours Birdie - Although he is into the flower buying. I remember when I was 14 he randomly came over with a bunch of flowers! I'm not comfortable with PDA, or big gestures. So I'm pretty happy with the lad the way he is!

Hmmm well so long as I get to be first wife I guess thats okay.

I refuse to do valentines, it makes me quesy and itchy all over! Enforced romance just doesn't sit right with me.

I think a lot of guys just don't 'get' romance. Romance to my OH is to keep me fed and warm and happy and safe. He isn't creative enough to make things or write notes, and he sadly doesn't see the point in flowers. I keep buying them for the flat but he hasn't got the hint that I like them yet! I appreciate it when he does do little things and see it as him being romantic, he'll never write poems or hire a barbershop quartet to sing a love song for me- he's a boys boy and these things just don't enter his boy brain! Bless him!

Birdie birdie birdie, that would then mean I am not a man. And I can assure you, with Dinahs full support, that I am indeed a man. Ergo your assumption is flawed therefore your whole hypothesis is wrong. Admittedly I'd love to be able to keep D fed etc also. Admittedly I'll rarely do flowers for the next while but I'll always have my little bits here and there. I've written poems etc but barbar shop Quartets are very expensive (I'm waiting for martin to give me some advice on affordable ones).

Long story short he just needs to pull up his socks and get his britbut in gear.
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

Each to their own Tete! It's what is right in your relationship, some people go for super romantic mushyness, others go for jokes and playful insults. Ours is certainly the latter! OH just doesn't know when to stop sometimes though and I get upset with him! He's such a little brother he forgets that's he's not antagonising a sibling but his girlfriend!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I'd get upset if I was antagonised, but I could cope with an 'odd' name. I think... maybe not... ex used to call me odd names that always seemed like thinly hidden insults when I think about it.

Exactly, and that's really important too.

Loving your use of the word 'ergo' NIM, I'm going to try to incorporate it into my everyday language more often. Also loving your misspelling of the word 'barber' as I now have a mental image of a load of singing elephants in stripy jackets and straw hats! :rotfl:

Your OH can't be so unromantic Birdie, he did propose, rather than waiting for you to do it or just assuming it'd happen!
