The ultimate incentive to get debt free, can I do it by New Years?

I was wondering that too, I think she needs some chicken soup.
I told him it's not really a good time to move out right now, he has his car insurance, road tax, MOT coming up in the next few months. He might end up having to get another credit card to cover his insurance like last year, but we're thinking he'll be able to save it up before hand.0 -
You should make him compete with you to save, play on his competetive streak (if he has one!). You can maybe set the target of however much his insurance will be and see who gets there first!
ETA: when I had flu and felt really queasy all the time I had ginger biscuits to make me feel better. Mmmm, we should send her some, they fix all ills!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I read lemonade helps aswell. Looks like she's getting a care package!
Sadly OH doesn't have a competetive streak! Once he starts saving though it mounts up quickly, he says he's only poor because of me. Moi?!
I've decided to save up for the caravan money in notes instead of in my savings - means I won't have to break into them
Thinking the same for my holiday clothes - dropped it to £80. I don't think it will cost too much for some shorts, vest tops and a few tea dresses! 0 -
I like saving up in coins and notes, I know that you don't get interest blah blah blah but there's something really satisfying about counting a pile of money and being surprised by how much you've got! I also love paying for something with a big bag of £1 coins and annoying the shop assistant!
My OH blames his 'poverty' on me, I don't know why! I don't force him to spend money on me! I think he's a bit upset that his food bill has risen since I've become a permanent fixture, but it's because I don't want to eat spaghetti hoops on toast every night for dinner!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. haha, spaghetti hoops on toast is lovely though! I don't even know what money I'm meant to be draining, I think he means petrol. But I offer him petrol money and he says no. I can't win!
I used to get paid in cash for working in the office, I managed to save £200 easy! I feel less inclined to spend money if it's cash, it's too easy to pay with my card and loose track! I think I might convert back to monies again. Get so much out on Friday and live in that.0 -
I tried that Cinny, but it didn't go too well! When I were a lass (say in Yorkshire accent!) -like I'm sooooo old now LOL!- I could get £5 out my bank on a Saturday and I could live like a queen about town with my buddies. £20 was loads of money. Now you get out £50 and it just disappears! I think I need to start staying in a lot more, although we're hardly out all the time! I plan on staying in and baking this weekend (I'm making pumpkin cake -sounds weird but very yummy!) and we're going for a walk on Sunday but I'll still end up spending money.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I remember I had my little bank account (the one with the bank book!) and I went to the bank to take out £20 and thought I was so rich and grown up - admittedly I was buying a betty spaghetti but they didn't need to know that - now £20 barely covers my board!
And as for saying 'lass' in a yorkshire accent, everything on this thread gets read in one! I'm even from Yorkshire!
Pumpkin cake sounds nice! I'm planning on baking this afternoon to keep me busy so I don't go into town.
I did a sneaky thing - paid most of my board with my HMV voucher!
- so getting £60 out tomorrow. £20 for board, £20 in the holiday fund and £20 to last me the week. Leaving my debit card at home when we go out at saturday so no temptation. If it's over £20 I'll have to do without (or do puppy eyes, depends how pretty it is! I'm shameless, I know) 0 -

We always do! Because you end up back in some pretty little village in the Dales or Lakes or somewhere and there'll be a gorgeous little tea shop with beautiful looking homemade cakes and it'd be rude not to! Nomnomnom!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Oooh, Betty Spaghetti! I had a couple of those, even though I was probably a bit too old for her at the time... but it was ironic...ahem!

Good luck managing the money! I get a bit worried if I know I haven't got my cards on me even if I don't actually use them I like to know I've got them 'just in case'! Saying that, I went out last night without my purse in my handbag but I didn't even realise it was missing, I was just carrying my bag around for no reason! Good ol' OH paid for everything, which is the best form of money management IMO!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I always decide that I deserve chocolate cake for walking so far! I'm pretty sure that the cake has more calories in it than I've burned during the walk but who cares?! (Although, does whinging about being tired burn calories because if it does I'd burn a heck of a lot!)Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary.
