it is only quiet because Maz and Red have defected to the running thread and are getting all intellectual about resting heart rates and the bank collapses:p

Glad you're feeling a bit better about things now you've had a rethink BB. You do realise don't you that you've just got stage fright and you'll need to be scraped off the ceiling when everything goes well next week :D

    This afternoon is dragging along...

had a meeting at lunchtime which was quite nice; if only to faces to names of people I communicate with electronically! I can't wait till I get home and can chill out.

BB - you sound more positive about teaching this afternoon so finger's crossed this plan's good to go.

  • I listened to myself and changed the bits I was panicking about to something I felt less anxious about doing.

Instead of doing 40 minutes of 'theory' (ie types of fish etc) and then 40 minutes of cooking, I'm going to do 2 recipes starting cooking right from when they walk in the door and if there are any parts where stuff is in the oven for 15 minutes etc, I'm going to do little quizzes or bring in weird fruits for them to try and try to identify.

Still very nervous though, but need to crack on and re-decide the recipes for weeks 2-10.

Feel pretty wiped out though - you know when you've had a huge row with someone, cried loads and the next day feel like poo? That's how I feel today, but I'm hoping the weetabix cake I've just put in the oven will help ;)

Are you saying that me and Maz usually blether a lot? :p

The new lesson ideas sound great BB, can I come?! :D

BB - although still nervous you sound like a woman on a mission!

What 2 recipes are you going to start with?

and that's rich coming from the unofficial mascot and up the duff cheerleader of the running club!!

I didn't understand the bank thingy as I don't do intelluectual Luc, you know that!

And as for resting heart rate, well my body is a temple! what can i say!!!

BB - glad you sound more upbeat... re the administrator saying you should ask for feedback, i would just hand out evaluation sheets at the end, you'll get just as much feedback that way without telling them you are new to the lark... no point asking for trouble or giving people a stick to beat you with...

    'tis quiet innit?

  • you can squirrel - there are only 3 places left though at the moment!

CAt - week 1 there is loads of admin, form filling in, fire drill, where the loos are etc, so I'm going to do a 10 minute vegetable stock and then use that to make tomato and courgette soup. If I keep it simple I can gauge the level of ability of the learners.

Week 2 I'm planning to do a fish pie and possibly mayonnaise, or maybe a very simple desert.

The course is 'cooking for one' with it being about people on their own learning to make simple dishes rather than ready meals. I'm aiming to do simple, quite traditional stuff but which uses lots of fresh ingredients.

    That's the plan!

Maz- there are feedback forms built in - beginning, middle and end of the course, so yes, I think you're right, I'll just keep quiet and see what is said mid course.

you can always say something general like, there will be forms at certain points in the course... but if you have any suggestions, issues or feedback then just pop it on a piece of paper and stick it on my desk or use a tub for a suggestions box (anonymously or otherwise...) or ask them if there is anything they would like to learn to cook to jot it down on a piece of paper and that'll keep the lines of communication open for informal feedback/ideas etc........

And my body is, er, a bit highly strung! :o

BB - the course sounds really good, what a great idea to run something like that with fairly basic cooking for real life! I think I can cook fairly well but I'd love to learn some more 'advanced' things, like how to fillet fish properly, how to make sauces etc, but the college where I work only runs ones for people who actually want to be chefs or basic kids cookery.
