grrr cant get TV working

Hello everyone!!

I've just moved into a shared house and I cant get the tv to work ... I have a freeview box connected to the tv and NOTHING I do seems to work ...

Atm I have an aerial (the T shaped type) borrowed from one of the other housemates connected into the back of the tv, and two scart leads connected into the TV and in the freeview box ... is this correct??

My housemate suggested a digital aerial with a booster but i'm not sure which to get as Maplins has shut down here in Preston so Argos is probably going to be my best bet,,, the staff in there no nothing about electricals ..

Thanks

hi you say aerial is connected into back of tv? needs to be in freeview box and scart lead from freeview box going to tv.

then get freeview box screen up on tv and go into menu and signal strenth you may need to move aerial around for good signal if you can get one
If you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter ;)
  • sorry no its in the back of the freeview box ...

I managed to get two channels last night ... CBeebies, and Motorsport UK... but figured that I had managed that by mistake as when I tried again I lost them.

  • T shaped aerial??? Isnt that for radio reception - unlikely to work with UHF transmissions.

Have you re-scanned your freeview box as it might have last been used at a different addess for a different transmitter? Have you tried putting your post code into this site and see what sort of aerial they recommend http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?
  • hi,

    No link provided.

Just go to the end of the row. It will tell you what sort of aerial you need

    http://http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&langId=-1&searchTerms=5352090&Submit=GO+%3E

Hi gain mean that you are miles from a transmitter and that you need a large outside multi element aerial and that an indoor aerial is unlikely to work due to a weak signal.

Is your house mate using a portable aerial?
What sort of picture does he/she get?
Is their picture a freeview picture or is it analogue (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, channel 4 and channel 5 only)?
Is your flatmates TV on the same side of the house as yours and on the same floor?

Should not need a high gain aerial for Preston area, you are only approx. 10 miles from Winter Hill transmitter, check you have the connections right and try retuning the TV and freeview box.
